Spent new years 2017 here and had a great time! We decided to stay an extra day and the staff were nice enough to find us a spare room because they were full. The hostel has clean beds and mosquito nets, but the wifi wasn't great. Nice little above ground pool in front to keep cool while relaxing. Probably 200 meters from the beach, where theres a bunch of great restaurants and locals having fun. They picked us up from the airport, but be sure to know it is at least a 1 hour drive from there.
This hostel is well located for the beach and also near a main road (a Subway was there when we needed an easy fresh meal!)
We walked from the train station - the direct route wasn't possible due to an unexpected gate across the road but the longer way round wasn't too much longer.
Great security - you need a key to get on to the property.
The dorm room is an okay size. It gets very hot even with the fans (top bunks block the fans to the bottom bunks). We had expected A.C. so were a bit disappointed. However, there is a nice outside space; a small pool and seating area. The mosquito nets are good and useful.
Having a small kitchen area is really nice. We used the crockery, cutlery, fridge and sink. There was also a kettle and cupboard space.
We were in a female only dorm but be aware the bathroom in the dorm room is also used by the dorm next door which is mixed.
We got breakfast included - toast and jam which was tasty.
The lady who runs the hostel also kindly arranged a taxi for us to take us to Colombo early in the morning so we could make our train connection.
We loved this spot. We slept four girls in a room. It was super hot at the time so even with the fans we were hot but there is a small pool to hang out in and the garden is lovely. The staff were very very friendly and helpful. There is a kitchen you can use and lots of space to relax. We really enjoyed our time here.
This is one of the more upscale hostels featuring nice landscaping and a swimming pool! Mostly for lounging, not swimming. What is great is the access to Mt. Lavinia Beach - unquestionably the best beach in Colombo. Merl is a great host and eager to please.
We stayed twice at this hostel; at the beginning of our Sri Lanka trip, when we needed some rest after travelling around India for a month, and almost a month later at the end of our journey. In the end we stayed here for a week, in two different rooms. Both our stays were perfect and the owner takes great care to please her guests. She arranged taxis to and from the airport for us and gave us nice tips and information. The prices are very fair and the facilities very good. There is even a pool for everyone in the front yard! If you don't fancy the pool though the beach is literally one minute from the beach. Perfect place to stay and one of the best hostels I've been to. Don't expect a party vibe though, mostly couples stay here, so if you're looking to meet people it might not be the best place for you. Couples will love it though, it is very laid back and a nice place to relax. Highly recommended!
