We stayed at Ouirgane Ecolodge for three nights in early October. It was hotter than normal at that time of the year so we didn't manage to do as much hiking as we hoped but still fit in a few morning hikes and enjoyed time relaxing by the pool. We really enjoyed our stay and were made to feel really welcome by the staff. We would definitely go back again.
Food: We ate all of our meals at the Ecolodge. Breakfast was included in the room rate and each day included tea and coffee, a fresh orange juice, an egg of some sort, a bread selection, and pancakes. Lunch and dinner was a 10 euro supplement per person and was absolutely worth it - the food was all cooked fresh and the portions were huge. Given the size of the breakfast and dinner portions, you could probably share a lunch portion between two people and would still be comfortably full.
Excursions: We arranged through the Ecolodge for a guide, Abdell, to take us on a 3.5 hour morning hike. It was 30 euro for the guide and definitely worth it. There's no way we would have known which route to follow without a guide. With a guide, we saw so many different views, and he pointed out different plants along the way. If it's hot when you're there, it's worth starting early before the heat of the day kicks in - we set off around 8.30am after breakfast and were back by 12.30pm. We were also able to arrange through the Ecolodge to take a packed lunch with us - it was 7.5 euro per person and again was a lot of food - bread, fruit, protein (in our cases tuna, or vegetarian option of nuts and cheese), soda, chocolate bar, salad. During our stay we did a couple of shorter hikes (1-2 hours) on our own and also walked into a nearby village, Maghira.
Payment: Although the Ecolodge accepts payment by credit or debit card, they charge a 5% fee on all card transactions so if you can, I'd recommend bringing cash with you to pay for your bill at the end (note that if coming straight from the airport there are currency exchanges and ATMs before you leave the airport).
WiFi: There's free WiFi in the communal areas but it wasn't accessible from our rooms and we enjoyed this opportunity to switch off.
Transfers: We arranged for taxi transfers from Marrakech airport to Ouirgane Ecolodge, and from the Ecolodge to Essaouira. This was easy to arrange and although you might be able to pay slightly less if you arrange the transfers elsewhere, we thought the price was good value for the convenience, comfort and service.
