Our welcome was so friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff - from the tea when we arrived through to the delicious meals and the orgaising of trips to see places of interest. The room was delightful, the food delicious and the ambience extremely relaxing. We loved the garden and the roof terrace. The swimming pool was very cold but it was very early in the season.

My partner, myself and our 21month old daughter spent four nights at this little oasis in the mountains. It was incredibly peaceful (with amazing stargazing at night) and the staff were so friendly - going above and beyond for us to make us comfortable. We had a family room on the ground floor which worked well for the three of us. The pool is refreshing but lovely after a walk in the heat. The garden where all the vegetables are grown is lovely and our daughter loved looking at the chickens and rabbits, as well as playing on the swing. But the best bit? The food! We ate at the Ecolodge quite a lot as the food was the best we had all holiday. It is proper home cooked with love food. I really recommend staying here for a few nights on your travels.

We stayed at Ouirgane Ecolodge for three nights in early October. It was hotter than normal at that time of the year so we didn't manage to do as much hiking as we hoped but still fit in a few morning hikes and enjoyed time relaxing by the pool. We really enjoyed our stay and were made to feel really welcome by the staff. We would definitely go back again.

Food: We ate all of our meals at the Ecolodge. Breakfast was included in the room rate and each day included tea and coffee, a fresh orange juice, an egg of some sort, a bread selection, and pancakes. Lunch and dinner was a 10 euro supplement per person and was absolutely worth it - the food was all cooked fresh and the portions were huge. Given the size of the breakfast and dinner portions, you could probably share a lunch portion between two people and would still be comfortably full.

Excursions: We arranged through the Ecolodge for a guide, Abdell, to take us on a 3.5 hour morning hike. It was 30 euro for the guide and definitely worth it. There's no way we would have known which route to follow without a guide. With a guide, we saw so many different views, and he pointed out different plants along the way. If it's hot when you're there, it's worth starting early before the heat of the day kicks in - we set off around 8.30am after breakfast and were back by 12.30pm. We were also able to arrange through the Ecolodge to take a packed lunch with us - it was 7.5 euro per person and again was a lot of food - bread, fruit, protein (in our cases tuna, or vegetarian option of nuts and cheese), soda, chocolate bar, salad. During our stay we did a couple of shorter hikes (1-2 hours) on our own and also walked into a nearby village, Maghira.

Payment: Although the Ecolodge accepts payment by credit or debit card, they charge a 5% fee on all card transactions so if you can, I'd recommend bringing cash with you to pay for your bill at the end (note that if coming straight from the airport there are currency exchanges and ATMs before you leave the airport).

WiFi: There's free WiFi in the communal areas but it wasn't accessible from our rooms and we enjoyed this opportunity to switch off.

Transfers: We arranged for taxi transfers from Marrakech airport to Ouirgane Ecolodge, and  from the Ecolodge to Essaouira. This was easy to arrange and although you might be able to pay slightly less if you arrange the transfers elsewhere, we thought the price was good value for the convenience, comfort and service.

A little outside of town but that is a good thing. Excellent location in beautiful gardens. Great walking nearby. Beautiful, stylish rooms, very nice, helpful staff, great food. There is even a refreshing swimming pool

Mohammed Aztat (Aztat Treks) arranged for us to spend our last night in his ecolodge here, rather than the riad in Marrakesh we'd booked. What a happy change of plan. The (small, but very clean) pool was a real treat and we loved being in such a green, lush and comfortable place, and enjoying a bit of luxury for our last day. Amina, Hassan and their colleague (who made the best bread!) looked after us very well, the food was delicious and all arrangements very well thought out to ensure we got our plane home the next day. Next time we come, it would be good to walk over the hills to Imlil....
