We had a great stay. The room was clean, the pool was nice, the walk to the beach was super quick and easy, it was quiet at night, and I had no issues whatsoever. It’s also dog friendly, but everyone diligently picked up after their dogs, so you couldn’t even tell.

Worst two nights ever. The office closes at 5 and there is only an emergency number listed that says it’s for real emergencies only like electrical and water. First night people next door we’re drunk and loud until midnight. The sound came right into our room. No sleep for us. They checked out in the morning and we thought, OK now we’ll have a pleasant night. No, the next crew started a loud domestic argument around 9pm and went until after 1 am, then back up at 6am loud talking and woke us up.
Don’t stay here unless you have ear plugs or your are deaf.

So I will do my best. 1st. The Tar Heel IS pet friendly now. This was our second year in a row staying here, we were going to stay before going to our rental in Corova but Dorian changed that plan. So we booked it after our week up north as I wanted a new tattoo over in Manns Harbor. As the previous year, our visit was great! I know part of our love for this place is the fact that you are kinda on your own, if you need constant attention and your hand held to get through the night it may not be for you. They do have someone there most of the day, but it's more of a place that you talk to others staying there, hang out at the pool etc. All while wearing your big boy clothes. Now that being said, if you have a problem with your room, you will get attention.

Other things you will get include, a great very clean room with a stiff bed, you will get a bit bigger bathroom if you get a room with the two queen beds, you will get to be within walking distance of anything you want. You get a great little pool that was very clean, you get grills to use if you want, you get a place where you can walk the streets or beach at midnight and not worry about anything, you get a microwave and toaster oven, fridge and even a damn Keurig! Oh, you will get to park right outside your door, and if your car/truck is your baby as my FJ is, you'll really like not having it crammed into a spot that you can't see from your room.

Any contact that we have had including the outstanding housekeepers has been awesome. Call them and make a reservation, you'll get a very nice person that is local to the area, oh yeah, I asked her.

So you know why I'm just writing a review now, I just booked three nights in Oct.2020. Seafood festival this year! So yeah, i had a little time to write.

I needed one night before I could get into my house after our last renters checked out for the year. I have walked by a bunch of times and saw that they did a nice renovation so I gave it a shot.

The location is great and the room was clean. The kitschy style is very cute and the room was bright and airy. I was by myself so didn't need much but the room was really roomy. I could see a small family staying.

I like the code access to the room. The email arrived a day or two before my check in and the instructions were very clear. Of course personal contact is nice but for my purposes it was perfect. I was able to access my room and leave as I wished with no hold up at all.

I gave it 4 stars because while the renovation is really nice, they shower looks as old as the hotel and the faucet was rusted and cracking. In addition, there was quite a drip. They offer a convection oven, microwave and refrigerator which are prominently displayed on the website so I bought a little dinner to eat in my room when I arrived after 9:00 pm. Alas, no forks, knives or plates which I found a little baffling since they have what is pretty much a mini kitchen. In any case, I would definitely stay again since it is so close and convenient for me. I'll just bring my own utensils next time...unless the owners decide to provide some.
