A beautifully mountain situated hotel in Ana Capri. A family hotel passed down in generations. That is one reason why this hotel warrants our continued custom. The hotel rooms are clean and functional with tea making facilities. The sea view chequered by growing vineyards is absolutely incredible . The staff are more than friendly and since it is small, you get to know them pretty quickly.
There is a lovely pool , again overlooking the vineyards and sea.
There is a pool cafe with a great buffet and you can also order food from the restaurant. Pasta puttanesca was certainly our favourite .
They allow locals to use the pool at 18 euros per person which is perfectly understandable to keep cash flow flowing but they need to ensure they respect the privacy of guests and allow them to use the pool without hindrance. ( You need to reserve your sunbeds).
The shower rooms could do with an upgrade and a power shower would be wonderful but they are maybe hindered by their position.
Equally, and if anything could be done, the WIFI could benefit from some investment. It isn’t consistent.
The food in the restaurant is fantastic, if a little pricey ( but so is Italy). It is well known in the area.
The breakfast is simple with toast, pastries , ham , cheese and warm croissants. We enjoyed fresh omelettes every day to order.
They provide a free shuttle service to and from Ana Capri which is lovely, with charming cobbler streets and plenty of restaurants . There is a fridge in the room so you can fill it to your hearts content with produce from the many local supermarkets nearby.
All in all this hotel is more than recommended if you want to escape the crowds of Capri and it would be great for a group of friends or large family .
We loved it.
We had two nights on Capri and stayed here for both. This is a superb family run small hotel with a large swimming pool situated outside the typical tourist area. We benefitted from the shuttle service (although our initial pickup was late by about an hour). This was the only hiccup during our stay. All staff members are polite and helpful. The rooms are well equipped with a fridge each with their own balcony area. There is an in-room fridge and basic toiletries are provided. Breakfast was included including fresh croissants (filled with jam) although we opted for tasty omelettes made fresh from their own eggs. A great base and easy to negotiate shuttles to anacapri centre allowing exploration of the island on foot or by bus. The walk to anacapri is best done out through the back of the restaurant, a straight path leads all the way to the town centre (under 20 minutes). Shuttle lifts are available from around 9am-midnight to anacapri only. A great find!
We stayed one night here and also ate at the restaurant. We were collected from Anacapri as part of the hotel service, which was great. It would have been a long walk...
Our room had everything we needed and had a stunning view over the water to Ischia and Naples.
The staff were super friendly and helpful, especially Vincenzo, who gave us great advice on what to see and do in our limited time on the island.
The only minor issue was wifi signal being marginal in the room, due apparently to the pool above blocking the signal.
Overall a great experience and would definitely return. 5/5
A very cozy place with elegant rooms and spacious private terraces. The Hotel is located on a hill in a very remote part of the island and trust me you won't feel like leaving the place. However there is free shuttle to and from Grand Port all day. The restaurant of the property serves most delicious food i tried on the island for a very reasonable price. Anacapri is in 20 minutes walking distance (or 5 minutes drive by free hotel shuttle), which is a very nice little town with Villa Michelle for touristic activity and great shopping.
My husband and I stayed at this hotel in mid September for our honeymoon. We found everything perfect for us. The location is quieter than Capri which is what we were looking for. The grounds are kept meticulous, the restaurant on site is fabulous with very fresh food. We ended up deciding to eat there all three nights we were there even though I love trying new restaurants. They raise their own chickens from which we had eggs for breakfast and chicken for dinner as well as grow their own grapes in a small vineyard easily accessible on the property. The staff are very friendly and always trying to find ways to make your stay more pleasant with any tips they can offer or little things they can do. There are paths that lead off the restaurant to a couple of viewing areas with beautiful views to watch the sunset and look along the coast of the island. Our room was clean and comfortable as well as having a private terrace that overlooked the ocean. My husband and I would sit there before dinner and enjoy a pre dinner drink. The pool was one of our favourite things and we are sad we didn't have as much time to enjoy it as we would have liked. The staff were very accommodating any time we needed them to drive us in the shuttle to town. All we had to do was ask. The only downfall is if you don't have a mobile phone you can use to call in for a pickup you could occur extra charges. We made sure we had one before hand though. The shuttle is required as the hotel is higher up on Anacapri passed many locals homes and narrow streets in which the taxis do not travel up. Overall, we would recommend Da Gelsomina for the hotel and restaurant.
