Stayed here for our anniversary trip to Helen and it was our first time to visit there. Beds were comfortable, rooms were clean and fresh smelling. AC worked great! Due to Covid-19, the breakfast buffet was not available, however the breakfast provided was still good. During our 4 night stay they had prepackaged breakfast sandwiches (frozen sausage biscuits; Sausage, egg and cheese on Bagel), yogurt, a variety of prepackaged muffins, juice and coffee. Thankfully, the pool and hot tub were open. That hot tub was amazing after walking. So relaxing! The staff were friendly and efficient! Highly recommend this hotel!
Enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was a good location, just outside the heavy traffic area of central downtown Helen. The indoor pool was just right for our young grandchildren. Room was clean and service was great and greeted with a smile.
Okay, so I admit that I had read all of the reviews for the various hotels in Helen before I decided on this one. And, I have to say that they were correct. This hotel is really a great choice! First, it was clean. I mean a deep down clean in all areas. The lobby was neat and tidy, the indoor pool was beautiful, clear and blue, and our room was spotless. I looked for something wrong, and the only thing I found is that the exhaust fan in the bathroom was super loud. Everything else was in great working order.
We took advantage of the amenities offered. I was originally worried about the pool being indoor because my teens prefer an outdoor pool, and enjoy laying in the sun while on vacation. Although the pool is inside, they have wide french doors that open out onto a large patio with lounge chairs. So, you didn't feel as closed in. Like I said before, the pool water was crystal clear and the perfect temperature. (Didn't feel like bath water, as some indoor pools do.) But, I would be remiss if I didn't mention this thing: they take the whole "No guests in the pool without someone 18 and older "VERY serious. You have to sign out pool towels, and they refused to give my 17 year old towels for our group. I had to be the one to sign them out. (Kind of a pain in the butt. But, the manager was super sweet about it. And when I questioned it, she immediately personally contacted my room about it.--Yep. Shocking.) The indoor pool also tended to get a little loud at night when most parents and their young kids were hanging out, playing. But, what else can you expect at an indoor pool? It echoes.
Although the typical free breakfast buffet could not be offered because of COVID regulations, they have what some refer to as "grab and go." Again, I was a little bit skeptical, because generally breakfasts like this are awful. But, they do a really good job of having high quality items for you to choose from. They offered juices, milk, boiled eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, bagels with toppings, grits and oatmeal, sausage biscuits to be heated and several nice sized muffins to choose from. My crew didn't walk away hungry like I originally thought they would. It was nice to never have to purchase a good breakfast to start our day.
Currently, there is no maid service, unless you request it. But, they provided clean towels with just a quick call to the front desk. And, the front desk ladies were fantastic. (Our favorite was the lady who works the afternoon/night shift--I can't recall her name. But, we LOVED her!) She was always there to make a suggestion for a great dinner and take care of any questions we may have. Overall, I have to say that it was a great 3 night stay. We felt that this hotel was a very safe and clean environment. I would not hesitate to suggest it to my family and friends.
It is rare to find an establishment that has friendly and helpful staff. I was so impressed! The room, pool, and spa area super neat and clean! The rooms are plain nothing fancy. However, everything in the room was super clean and operational. I asked for a roll away bed and within less than 5 mins I had one at the door. I can not express how pleasantly helpful the staff was here. I rarely experience that when visiting a hotel these days. If I had to dig deep, the only issue would be the snack machine. They only take one dollar bills or coins. The machines do not take five dollar bills or cards. However, I would definitely recommend for a family traveling
We have traveled to Helen, GA for twenty years in a row to go tubing once a year, and our pick of hotels is the Country Inn and Suites, even though we are normally Marriott travelers. The location and service are what really set this hotel apart. Judy is a treasure and makes everyone feel like an old friend. The staff members are all local, exceptionally friendly, and eager to serve--real southern hospitality. Even though they have restrictions due to Covid, they are trying to make everyone as comfortable as possible. Each time I would go down to get more towels, they would remind me that I could just call and they'd be glad to bring them. Even though the breakfast cannot compare to their normal "country" fair, each morning they provided a different breakfast sandwich, oatmeal, and grits that all could be microwaved in the room. They also had milk, orange juice, yogurt, boiled eggs, bagels, muffins, cereal, apples, oranges, and nutrigrain bars. Although the hotel is no longer new, the rooms are always clean, and the beds are very comfortable.
The other thing that is great about the Country Inn and Suites in Helen is the location. Helen is a very touristy destination with lots of little shops and restaurants. Traffic tends to be terrible, especially on weekends, so being able to walk to the downtown area is a must--unless you want to sit in traffic as it crawls through the highway that runs through Helen. From the Country Inn and Suites you can easily walk to either end of town to eat and shop. One advantage to visiting Helen is that there are enough restaurants with outdoor seating that you can easily eat meals all weekend without ever having to eat inside.
The indoor pool is always warm enough for swimming (unlike many indoor pools that are not heated enough and take your breath away). The hot tub is small but enjoyable, and they have a nice patio area adjoining the pool.
The only negatives are that the wifi is sometimes slow--but that is the case with both wifi and cell service throughout Helen, not just at this hotel--and that you can sometimes hear noise from other rooms or outside if people are being loud. Of course, those are things that no hotel staff can really control. This is not a new hotel or a fancy hotel, but it is a great hotel for location and service!!
One last tip--book early!! Enough people know about this gem that it can be hard to get a reservation unless you plan ahead.
