I have stayed at Island House probably 100 or more times. Always a stellar stay. You must go and stay if you have not. It's an amazing facility - the pool, restaurant, rooms, gym, hot tubs, grounds - are all perfect. The staff are the absolute best. Island House Key West is a "must see" for every gay traveler. A truly perfect trip.
We had a wonderful time. Booking was easy and when we arrived the guys were able to upgrade us to another room which was awesome of them. The arrival staff was so friendly and warm.
When we got to the room it was pretty small (albeit most likely larger than what we had booked). However, we weren’t too worried about it as we knew we were wouldn’t spend too much time in the room. Room was great quality. Comfortable beds and excellent Aveda bath products. I would like to see a larger selection of in room movies. ;)
The pool was fun as always. Love the free happy hour. The restaurant is excellent as well. Had great food several times. Options are pretty diverse and the staff overall is good out at the bar. I will say Zoltan seemed like he couldn’t be bothered half the time to serve the tables. We repeatedly tried to get his attention during dinner but he was spending more time talking to the other server/bartender. He was at least friendly when he did make his way over.
The amenities were pretty good as well. Two hot tubs were lovely and the steam room was great as well.
Definitely don’t understand how anyone can rate this place poorly and especially ratings saying it smells of mold or “the stench of old men.” The resort is fresh and clean all the time and if anything you can smell how clean they keep the premisis.
A group of 7 of us stayed at Island House for 4 nights, and we had a lovely time.
When checking in we were greeted, checked in and gave a small tour of the property. The resort is in great shape and maintained very well. I have been to many places and never I have seen filtered water coolers placed around the property for guest to have water and not have to purchase bottle water. THANK YOU ISLAND HOUSE.
I am unsure why, but we were upgraded to a larger room, in a great location-#215. The rooms are well appointed, ceiling fans, and housekeeping did a fantastic job on the 2 days we asked for it.
The bar/restaurant staff are the hardest working people you could ever ask for. We had many meals at the cafe, the food and service were 5 stars.
The only complaint I have is how happy hour is ran. I appreciate the 4 free drinks per registered guest in your room, but the delivery of happy hour is in need of improvement. With COVID and social distancing guidelines you are not allowed to go to the bar and place your order. The servers come around to the edge of the pool and everyone is trying to get a drink at the same time and it becomes hard to get your free drinks. I assume in normal conditions the process is much smoother. I did not enjoy having to flag down a waiter, often times they would forget my drink...3 of days we did not even get all of our drinks as the process is so dreadful. The servers are doing all they can do - I think a better process would be to just give a bar credit-or tickets you can use anytime during your stay.
If you are looking for a gay get away, I would suggest island house.
Just returned from my rescheduled visit to Island House. Had a great time, as usual. They do their best to keep us safe in these troubled times. The new deck/bar area by the pool look amazing and the retiled steam room is really nice. (good job!) I look forward to my Labor Day visit in September. Special thanks to Paul, Erick and Zoltan in the bar/cafe for my wonderful mudslides. Thanks for a great trip!
Great hotel/resort if you don't mind sharing a public bathroom. The place is very clean, the staff is excellent and extremely friendly. The staff gives you a little tour but really you just have to walk around to learn your way around. Their is a big pool and two whirlpools, one being indoors. Rooms are cozy. there is a sundeck next to the pool above the restaurant/bar. The location is a walk from Duvall Street but then you get to soak up the atmosphere and home architecture which is really neat. I loved the crowing roosters on the street in the morning. Fun play room upstairs. What I really love is the 24 restaurant which is really really handy. I was really more of a tourist then a partier but I'd definitely come back. I regretted I didn't stay longer, if only I knew.
