A friend suggested that I stay overnight in New Haven to avoid travel before a medical appointment. I thought she was crazy. "What about COVID?!" I was more afraid of staying in a hotel during a pandemic than of falling asleep at the wheel. But I did research. & was immediately impressed by the protocol at The Study. Every place I called described their cleaning process, but this was different. For one, I spoke to a real, live person. On site, at the hotel as we spoke. She was so lovely I took her name to include in my review. But more about that in a moment. When I heard that they not only had new cleaning procedures, but then left each guest room EMPTY for at least 24 hours between guests, I was able to relax a bit. I booked my room. I was also assured that I would not be charged if I had to cancel, even last minute. This reflected the personal and real consideration shown to their guests.
Upon arrival, the gate was lifted for me to park in the garage under the hotel. I was greeted in the lobby by the woman who had taken my reservation. She was leaving her shift, but mentioned that she had been looking out for my arrival, The two women left at the desk were equally warm and welcoming. I made note of their names as well. As I settled into my UBER comfortable room, I thought to myself, "This is not the fanciest hotel I've ever stayed in, but so far it seems to be the nicest."
The lighting was perfect. The bed was so comfortable and the linens divine. A big, comfy reading chair with ottoman in front of the window and under a reading lamp made for a cozy reading spot. The desk at the window made plugging in and finishing some work effortless. The bathroom was spotless, modern, well-appointed.
Due to COVID, the hotel restaurant is closed. When I got my takeout dinner, they offered to open to restaurant space if I preferred to eat there rather than in my room. I was fine eating in my room, but once again appreciated the thoughtful offer.
My appointment at Yale New Haven was early in the morning. Once I came back, I was told not to worry about the formal checkout time, but to go upstairs, rest and leave only once I felt ready to drive back home. I was going to take the gentleman's name when I realized -- I don't need to name individuals because I can assure everyone that ALL the employees at The Study are exemplar hospitality professionals. Who would have imagined that what started as a trip to a doctor ended up feeling like a vacation?
