We attended a conference downtown and the location was super. 7-minute walk (or 2-minute scooter) to the light rail. Very safe and clean around the hotel. The Hotel has a shuttle that is 5 minutes from the Airport. Both times to and from the airport was quick and easy. You can see why Marriott would put this business catered hotel here in this location.
Rooms were pretty good, not great. This is one of those hotels where the windows don't open. Our first room had a musty smell that actually irritated my sinuses. I asked to move and the second room was fine. I think the carpet in that sealed environment collects dust and (dare I say maybe mold). I heard the hotel is only 3 years old, so not sure if this was just particular to me, or that one room, or if it's common in other rooms.
As much as I enjoyed the hotel, this one factor would be enough for me to look elsewhere if revisiting. I imagine this is either a factor for people or not. For myself, I can smell mustiness in a room very keenly. I would always prefer a room with no carpet and with mostly hard surfaces on the floor. Hard to find, I know.
The kitchenette is mostly practical. It's not really stocked with water glasses unless you count beer and wine and coffee glasses. The utensils are limited, etc. But it works.
The bathroom is nice, the shower very nice. Very clean.
I really liked the option for the sleeper sofa. We needed the third spot (One king + sleeper). It worked out great for us to have that option.
There is a restaurant in the 'sister Spring Hill (?) hotel downstairs. This was quite handy. The neighborhood and the downtown San Jose area, in general, didn't seem to be overflowing with food options. We went to Japan Town one night and that was great, but at least around the hotel there are very few easy and nice places to eat. So having the restaurant downstairs was convenient. The food was fine, not great, not overpriced, good service, friendly folks. Mostly it had a decent vibe that did the trick well.
I and the kids hit the snacks at the front desk about once a day. Importantly, the prices were reasonable and not escalated due to them being the only game in town.
The pool was pretty good too. No hot tub, but there's fire to the side if you desire. The pool was heated and warm enough for the kids to hang in for an hour.
All in all a good hotel. I'm guessing many Residence Inns fit this bill. I was very happy with the stay.
