Great place in a residential area of Mossel Bay. Very close to the city center and plenty of food options around, but a car is recommended although Meike and Martin will organize a shuttle, if needed. The rooms are small, but lovely decorated. We did not use the small terrace outside of our room, but the pool area instead. The big living room is for sharing as well and it was possible to put some drinks in the small fridge. The breakfast was superb and we definitely enjoyed their eggs, bread and cheese! Fresh fruit salad was served as well. The wifi signal was not very strong, but ok for texting with the family back home.
We loved their rhodesian ridgeback, he is already an old but very cute dog.
With all their recommendations on what to do or where to eat we had spent a good time at Avenues Guesthouse and wish both a continous flourishing business!
Herzliche Grüße von Robby, Dirk, Rico und Isabell :-)
To stay away from home for a long time is not easy. But two overnights at avenues is like arriving home. The friendly and warm greeting from Meike and Martin and this nice livingroom which you can use if you want feels like home.
They know a lot about Mosselbay and things to do.
Because there was another room free we could choose and of course to get that africa feeling and because of the nice shower we choosed the African styled room. In the room you have a folder full with ideas and stuff to do and also a town map with their favourite restaurants already marked in, so you see wich restaurant is close to the sea. In the livingroom you can take a look in the menus of some restaurants wich also makes it easier to choose the right place. The Wi-Fi is also for free.
The pool area looks nice and inviting but it was to cold :).
Breakfast was delicious.
All in all it was very tidy and organised. I will definitely come back :)
Avenues is located on the top of a hill, in a nice quiet neighbourhood. That said, it is just a 5 minute drive away from the main town centre.
The best part of Avenues is the hosts, Meike & Martin. Warm and friendly, always ready to leap into action to make our stay more comfortable or to suggest some interesting activity.
The guest house is very well done up and beautiful. One can spend the day lounging by the pool. The room was also very comfortable, nice and spacious.
Will definitely stay again on my next trip there.
My wife and I, and our college-aged daugter stayed at Avenues for one night in early January. (Two rooms are necessary for this arrangement, and it definitely won't "break the bank.") This B&B is so good that I've had it in mind to write a review ever since! Meike and Martin love their work -- it's practically a vocation for them. Meike welcomed us on arrival and showed us the way into the secure parking area. The rooms were absolutely charming: Ours had a private patio area, the décor in both rooms and the common areas was modern and cheerful. My wife found the room a little small; well, she's right, yet the cleanliness and also the outsize, comfortable bathroom ensuite make up for it in my book.
Many of the rooms open on an inner courtyard, as our two rooms did, and the simple landscaping adds to a holiday feel. Our hosts were very helpful in suggestions for dinner -- getting a feel for what we might be looking for as they made recommendations. They also directed us to the lovely beach a short drive away, with its "northern exposure," as Martin enthused. And they have a clean and pretty pool on the property for a relaxing dip.
Many reviewers have complimented the breakfast -- yes! It's a tasty breakfast, simple, unassuming, with good coffee, muesli, other breakfast fare and eggs to order if you wish. A real family operation -- Martin prepares eggs in the bright kitchen, while most of the choices are self-service.
Our daughter needed some medical attention as we prepared to roll out of Mossel Bay the next morning, and Meike gave us directions to a general practitioner that she knows, and called the Dr. too.
I was a little hesitant to book a B&B so "far" from town and the beach. But . . . . you have wonderful views of the Bay and the Indian Ocean just a short walk from the B&B. A nice discovery for me was the St. Blaize hiking trail -- a lovely way to meander through the fynboss. (See the Web for more -- it's really a highlight for walkers / hikers looking for am easy and beautiful walk.) Meanwhile, nothing is very far away, in Mossel Bay.
When I think back on how much I loved my first trip along the Garden Route, Mossel Bay and the Avenues Guest House have a lot to do with it!
My partner and I stayed for 1 night with breakfast in the most charming and gorgeous room that was coffee colour.
The facilities were outstanding. the shower room was modern, clean and well equipped. The bed linen was crisp and white. A tv and coffee/tea facilities were included.
A stocked kitchen with honesty fridge was a nice touch.
Meike & Martin were wonderful hosts, being a modern German couple with enlightened social acceptance.
A pool and indoor guest sitting area was included.
We will stay again when passing through
