After an amazing experience at the nearby Mediterranean Villa Guest House in Tamboerskloof the Blue House Guesthouse was a huge let down.
On the plus side the location is perfect and the room size is very generous but none of this made up for the lack of care and attention to detail in the house and by the staff. The service was perfunctory at best.
The bathroom was shabby with a mouldy shower and shower doors that hung skew and didn’t close properly.
The bed was large and comfortable but the pillows were lumpy.
The breakfast was poor, with stale breakfast muesli and milk on the turn. Bread on offer was 2 slices of slightly dry, ready sliced white or brown loaf.
There was a single 500ml bottle of water available in the fridge. We had to abandon breakfast on day 1 and didn’t even try on day 2.
During the 2 days we were there, a plastic bottle and a piece of paper blew around in the garden entrance.
I can’t recommend staying at the Blue House Guesthouse.
Located just out of City Centre on a quiet residential street. Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. There are guest rooms where doors open onto the entrance hallway. These might suffer with noise from other guests arriving late or having an early breakfast, but luckily I was in an upstairs room! Staff are very friendly and helpful
This guesthouse is very convenient for Cape Town's well known attractions. It is an easy walk or there are busses.
However when we arrived it took two phone calls to get the door answered. We were told there was off street parking, but it wasn't available on our first night. On arrival one of the cups in the room was dirty. The bathroom had mould on the grouping and the extractor fan was dirty. Rooms 1 and 2 are very close to the dining area and a tour group using the guesthouse were extremely noisy both, late at night and in the morning. The breakfast was adequate, but not all the food had been covered on the buffet. The curtains in the room had hooks missing and so looked sloppy. Although there was stuff to make tea it was all over the room with no dedicated beverage station and no fridge. Although the staff were friendly, we felt there was a lack of management and attention to detail. For the price, it was not value for money.
We felt very much safe and at home in this house and appreciated the kindlyness and informal behaviour of the staff. The room was spacy and everything was working well. we appreciated that the original character of the house has been maintained.
Our family of 10 recently returned from Cape Town and a 4 night stay in the Blue House. The house is really well located, easy walking distance to restaurant and retail with wonderful views of Table Mountain. It is located in a quiet neighborhood so you get the local feel of the city and not the touristy area. The hosts were lovely and helpful and the house is secure. We occupied 5 of the 8 bedrooms with our group so we felt like it was our home for the visit. Terrific value, clean rooms and a great location.
