I had a good time here, but my room was right next to the pool, so people were hanging out outside the door talking. Not all the time, but quite often at night. You can buy food here, but I found same dish half price out on the street. They offer tours, but shop around in the city, if you've got the time. You might find the same tours much cheaper. This place is also a bit noisy, located near a train line and a busy street (Avenida 2), but it's easy to go everywhere from here. All in all recommended.

I arrived at SJO airport, got easily with an Uber to the hostel and stayed for one night. My girlfriend arrived in the following night and continued our travel the next day.
The hostel is very nice. Especially the inner garden including the pool, lots of places like mattresses for chilling, the bar/restaurant and more. The rooms were totally fine and I liked the small curtains in front of every bed in the dorms. The bathrooms were basic, but cleaned.
The staff was very helpful regarding our future travel. They gave us a lot of tips and informations for the buses for example.
The city is about 10 minutes walk away and the Grand Terminal for the long-distance buses is ca. 20 minutes by walk.
A very nice service for „free“ from the hostel is the possible storing of your suitcases during sour further travels. They just want another reservation after your storing time and then you can leave your stuff in a separate room in the basement till you finished your stay.

Nice hostel for a short stay with a great vibe, swimming pool area, bar and restaurant inside. We booked double room with shared bathroom. Room was small, but clean enough for hostel. Bathroom had hot shower.

I stayed in an 8-bed basic female dorm for 2 nights in December. The first thing I noticed upon arrival is that the neighborhood is very run down. This is not an area you want to be wandering around alone during the day, let alone after dark. The grounds of the hostel itself are very secure though, and you must buzz to be let in or out. Check in was easy enough, and the staff was nice enough. Wi-Fi was fine, I had no issues connecting. Some of the bathrooms have been renovated and are very nice, although you may have to try out a couple showers before you find one with hot water. The room itself was very run down and the bed frames flimsy. The bedding isn’t the greatest either, but luckily, the room was almost empty, so I was able to take extra bedding from another bed. The lockers in the room were so beaten up and damaged that only 1 of the 9 actually closed. Not that it mattered, they weren't secure to the wall/floor in any way. The pool area looked nice, but I did not go in the water, so I can’t comment there. Breakfast included was pancakes and coffee, which was fine. I did order dinner from the restaurant one evening and wasn’t a huge fan of the food or the service. Note that there are train tracks right behind the building, so when trains go by – which happens a couple times a day, including really early in the morning – you will both hear it and feel it. In the end, this place was just ok. I will probably look around next time to book a place that is in a better neighborhood.

Hello, Unfortunately the whole San Jose is a bit run down as you said, its a quite like that in the latin american capital cities im afraid, im glad you liked th hostel though, we're are working on finishing changing all the beds. The train you mentioned is running though the entire city but the municipality is on the verge to fix it with gates and lights. Regards, Vince

We cannot recommend this hostel. We had a double room located in the cellar with a window to the floor, no natural light. There was not much space and bathrooms outside. The cleanliness of the room as well as the bathroom is more than expandable. As we arrived late and did not want to go out for dinner, we had our dinner in the hostel. But unfortunately the quality of the food was poor. No cooking, just warming up meals in the micro wave. There is a pool area, which seems to be nice, however at this day the area around and also the communal space was crowded, as it seems a school class was on a class trip.
