We stayed at Hanthana Jungle View Holiday Home for a few nights before heading to Ella by scenic train (owners are getting us tickets 5:30 am tomorrow .. hopefully! As other guests mentioned, if you can’t get them, the owners get to the station early day-of when cancellations occur, so we’re hoping...)
This hotel is charming, clean, set very high up in the hills with twists and turns and a pretty jungle setting and views.
We stayed in a very nice Deluxe King room w private bathroom, air conditioning, on the first floor, at a very reasonable price. Bed is comfortable, WiFi is best midnight to 8 am, though a few times it worked really well during daytime hours.
Prabha and her son, Hassi focus on running the hotel, and her husband Peiris helps as well, especially with getting the train tickets for guests. They are the nicest people, so kind and helpful, with Prabha actually driving guests to the train station or somewhere in town, and arranging tuk tuks/private cars if you want a tour.
Prabha’s meals are excellent. Breakfast is USD 2.00 each. Not sure about dinner, though we had her excellent meal, but have yet to check out and pay tomorrow.
The second floor has two common areas for use by guests - sofas and cooking facilities, refrigerator, balconies overlooking the jungle.
Here we mainly relaxed before heading out, as we’ll be in Sri Lanka for a few months and just arrived. We easily walked to town and the views are pretty. It’s usually a quiet walk down until you reach town. However, we generally hired a tuk tuk coming back up. Note: the tuk tuk drivers often got lost coming up! And so did we!
Prabha, Hassi, Peiris (and employee Mala) make the experience here special and we thank them all. If you like peace and quiet and a jungle view in a charming place, we recommend Hanthana Jungle View Home and the very lovely family that runs the hotel.

We chose this hotel due to previous reviews about the hosts helping to get train tickets to Ella, and we requested the same. We were half lucky with tickets getting seats in third class up to Nanu Oya which was great (the hosts go very early to the train station to obtain whatever cancellations are available). Hosts will happily give you lifts by car for similar prices to tuk tuks. Room was clean and comfortable with small balcony out the back. Nice dinner.

Nice spacious room clean bathroom. This place is out of the city so quiet and has little balcony to relax on in the evening and hear the sounds of the forest close by. The family are very accommodating and the food was great. They can drop you off anywhere in town in their car for about the price of a Tuk Tuk and even pick you up if you call them. They can also arrange train tickets for a small fee but don’t be too disappointed if they can’t get them at peak times.

Lovely family home with rooms. We ate lunch, dinner and breakfast here which were all excellent. Clean and comfortable room with air conditioning. Family were extremely helpful and even sourced train tickets for us in advance of staying. Super.

Our family of five stayed here for 3 nights in August on the first leg of our Sri Lankan adventure. What a totally amazing place, so peaceful and with beautiful views. Our accommodation was so spacious, we had lots of room to enjoy.
Praba and her family were so friendly and welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. Breakfast was totally amazing with everything from fruits, pancakes and breads to spicy sambals - lots of home made specialities.
After one very long day, we came home to a wonderful home cooked dinner that Praba had prepared for us along with some very needed refreshments. Perfect!
We wished we had stayed longer and when we return we will definitely be coming back here. Thank you for giving us a true taste of Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan hospitality.
