We spent two nights at this lovely little hotel and were very pleased. The room was large and very clean and comfortable. There is a small fridge too! We enjoyed cooling off in the pool after a busy day of touring the ancient city. The food was plentiful and delicious. The staff were super friendly - thanks for making our stay so enjoyable!
Since there aren‘t many tourists in Sri Lanka at the moment, we were the only guests there. We stayed 2 nights and had breakfast and dinner there. The food was delicious, and the portions were huge (too huge, we always gave back half of the food). They also made an effort to make sure we enjoyed our stay.
You can rent bikes to visit the old town but we took a tuk-tuk driver which the hotel had arranged for us. He was really great, and we can only recommend him (Bas 077 519 7057). His English isn‘t great, but it‘s ok. He took us to the old town and suggested to go to Mihintale in the evening as well. We weren‘t sure at first if we wanted to go, but were in the end very glad that he had suggested it. He also drove us to our next hotel in Trincomalee.
When we arrived the water didn‘t work in our room, after one hour they had it fixed. We also had a lot of bugs in our first room but it was no problem to switch rooms on our second day. The maintenance could be better. The bathrooms already looked worned out, even though it‘s a new hotel. The hotel also tries to sell itself as luxury resort, but it would work better as a sort of homestay.
We booked through hotels.com but when we arrived - on our first night in Sri Lanka - they denied all knowledge of our booking. Much like the experience with expedia in an earlier review they claimed someone had "hijacked our telephone number" and told us we had to go to the tourist police. Not being keen on this after a 12 hour flight and a 6 hour drive I asked if there was a room free, and as there was I paid for it on the spot.
I complained to hotels.com, who said as far as they were concerned the booking was genuine (and it did strike me later that the whole business about hijacked telephone numbers seemed implausible when everything on hotels.com is done online). Hotels. com have agreed to refund me, but said that the hotel failed to reply to all their emails about it.
Shame, because it is a very nice (if slightly odd) hotel, with good bedrooms and a nice pool
We stayed in Hotel Bella Vista for one night in our Family visit to Anuradhapura. We were 5 adults and 1 infant. We booked two rooms - Studio room and Deluxe Room.
Three of us stayed in the studio room and it is spacious and 4 adults can stay comfortably. The room comes with one king bed and an attic where they set a second bed. Rooms are decorated in earth colours and there were a few colourful throw pillows to give a bit of playfulness.
Bathroom is clean and the hotel provides good WiFi. The only downside I noticed is there are no plug points in the attic, so one has to come down to the main bedroom to charge the devices.
We only took breakfast from the hotel and taste was good. Breakfast is not a buffet, therefore have to inform them the night before to arrange the order.
The hotel comes with a pool, however we didn't use it.
Overall it is a good stay and definitely worth the money.
My family spent 3 nights at Hotel Bella Vista and loved it. They have thought of everything. Super comfortable beds, huge room, clean, great pool, lovely breakfast and very helpful staff. Heshan the manager ( and chef) is a fountain of knowledge and happy to share. He also makes lovely food both for breakfast and from a menu at any time. The owner is a Dr whose wife checked in on my husband when he had a fever. She offered helpful advise and offered Dr’s service if required. A really lovely hotel I recommend highly. A little out of town but resident staff have a auto rickshaw, they have bikes or can arrange taxi easily. We would have liked to stay longer
