Incredible place to stay. Jungle setting and beautiful grounds. Cabanas are private and spacious. Some have A/C. I would suggest staying in a Cabana, they are so nice. If you love horses this is a great place to be. John is a Montana Cowboy and horse whisperer. To relax there is a large pool. Food is excellent and meals are served at specific time so all can eat like family with John at the head of the table. Check out John's large collection of Mayan artifacts and check out Carolyn's paintings. Amazing. If that is not enough John has a Jaguar. The first Jaguar was rescued and died of old age. Because John took such great care of the first one, the government granted him permission to have another one. Enjoyed our stay,I highly recommend it.
My family recently spent 2 nights at the Banana Bank Lodge for my 40th and my mother in law’s 60th birthdays. After reading some reviews I was skeptical about the choice, however, it was a great place to stay and we had an amazing time! For people who say the decor and rooms are outdated, they should just go someplace else - this place is not an upscale, modern 5 star resort and it doesn’t claim to be! The rooms are unique and they suit the location and feel of a jungle resort in Belize. Cleanliness is extremely important to me, and the rooms and bathrooms were spotless. For those who complained about bugs - you are in the middle of the jungle, what do you expect!!?? We spent hours of fun at the pool and my 8 and 12 year olds went on a horseback ride and they loved it. The best part - the food! It is served at a designated time in the dining hall, and often the owners joined us for our meals. To top it off, the kitchen made my mother in law and myself a special birthday cake. The Banana Bank Lodge is a diamond in the rough and you’ll never find anywhere else like it in the world.
We live in San Pedro but always looking for new places when we go to the mainland for a little getaway and we found a gem at Banana Bank. John & Carolyn, the owners provide great hospitality, a friendly staff and a secluded, relaxing getaway. Nice grounds with tons of beautiful plants, secluded jungle cabanas and other amenities. Horseback riding and a nice pool right there on property. An interesting couple with an interesting story about coming to Belize and carving out this “gem in the jungle”. Carolyn is an extremely talented artist with an unbelievable gallery on site and John has amazing array of Mayan artifacts and other Belizean historical items. If you are looking to get a taste of the real Belize, it’s history and some of the great scenic beauty of the country, served up with friendly smiles and a hospitable, comfy place to stay, make sure you visit Banana Bank Lodge.
I have stayed here a couple of times over the past several years with a group I travel with. It has been a unique experience. The rooms are nice, the staff very friendly and personable, the grounds are well cared for, it has a nice pool. Birds, horses, howler monkeys are all part of the experience. Additionally they have a beautiful jaguar that was rescued and now has a safe place to call home, All that said, it is a jungle lodge, it isn't a comfort resort.
My Husband, Daughter and I stayed here the first night of our trip. The grounds are beautiful and the rooms are separate little cabanas. You feel secluded from others so have your own little slice of the jungle. If you are looking for a fancy resort, this is not the place for you. If you enjoy a laid back, family style environment, you will love it here.
Dinner was a family style meal where we enjoyed a great conversation with the owner John and his wife Caroline as well as two other guests.
The pool was nice and we spent quite a bit of time there cooling off.
Caroline is an amazingly talented artist, and has a gallery where you can look at many of her paintings.
Tika Too, the Banana Bank's own Jaguar, was a lot of fun to sit and watch.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. If we are ever back in Belmopan, we will definitely be back!
