Best place we have stayed at, great location with only minutes away from the Shopping Centres. Excellent customer service from Kayla at Reception who made our stay just so amazing and giving us a "Room with a View", Level 8, Room 814. So clean and you have all the comforts of home and entertainment that you can see from your room. Great Location with small shops opposite eg: Salon, Wellbeing, Barbers, Historic street homes, gardens, swimming pool, laundry facilities, dining and cafe facilities, Japanese Retaurant on the premises. Even after the Fire Alarm went on at 4 am on 2/1/20, they offered a free full breakfast for us, how excellent is that. Thank you Rutherford Hotel and Kayla for making this a most memorable trip that my husband and I have ever had and being our first visit to Nelson, would definately go back.
Stayed here on the 12th floor for 2 nights late Autumn , and dined at the Japanese Restaurant, which was stylish. Room was lovely, great view, bath, everything worked, good TV with channels, lacking only the TAB channels. Gym was excellent. Overall a polished stay, the hotel is dated in age, and some would see as old fashioned, but it has a quiet style about it, everything seems to work, just needs that spa pool to add to the services available
Great hotel a few hundred feet from the main shopping area. Spacious rooms very high standard of cleanliness and decor. Really helpful front desk staff. Just a shame the pool was closed as it was end of season.
Nice reception, unfortunately the building looks like a 70's office block. Pool closed until next summer - disappointing, but guess it was due to the weather, not so warm here! Room nice size, opening windows which we appreciated as we dislike air con. Coffee, tea, kettle, hairdryer, iron in room but no safe. Good location, easy walk to town and restaurants. Breakfast OK. We walked to the beach at Tahunanui, about 3 miles each way, but well worth it! Beautiful sandy beach, spent 2 hours there looking for shells and sitting on driftwood logs admiring the view. Guess you could get a taxi or bus there if it suited you better than a walk. Smugglers pub, Macdonalds and other shops/eateries near beach as well as public toilets. Great views of mountains and coast. We had been offered a trip to Abel Tasman, but glad we didn't bother - fellow travellers went and it seemed we had the better day, low cost, no buses and a day to ourselves during this fairly hectic tour of NZ. Later in the evening we walked into the town, pint of decent beer in the Vic pub and a Thai curry just down the road, only minutes from the Hotel.
This is a relatively large property for the area. Very clean with attentive staff but showing a lack of attention by management. Fixtures and furniture in our room and public areas could use an upgrade - crack in sink & tub, a terribly cracked and poorlyrepaired table in the lobby for example. To our dismay the pool was quite unappealing despite being one of the hottest times of the year.
