Frances and Brian were such warm and wonderful hosts - full of information, history, and chat. The room was immaculate and breakfast was a treat. Everything is just a walk away in quaint and quirky Hokitika. All in all, can’t recommend highly enough.
After a long, scenic drive from Christchurch over Arthur's Pass, we were welcomed with tea in the garden outside our comfortable room--a perfect respite from the day. The location is convenient for walking to craft and jade shops, and the breakfast was superb. The one caveat is that Brian and Frances have the place up for sale, so no guarantees that their generous hosting will be available next year.
We managed to get to Hokitika via The Lewis Pass, hoping to reach Franz Joseph. It was not to be as the road was closed due to the torrential rain. However, we had a lovely time in Hokitika mainly as our hosts Francis and Brian were incredible.
We stayed in the garden room, which had a very comfortable bed and a huge en-suite with a spa bath, plus a lovely sunny deck.
Breakfast was always fresh fruit, yogurt and muesli plus toast, juice and then whatever eggs you wished for. Tea and coffee are in plentiful supply with cake when you return each afternoon.
Helpful advice is given on what to do and we were even dropped off by Brian for a particular walk. We were invited to the local quiz night, although I am not sure about our contribution!
A fabulous B& B. We stayed in the Garden Suite and the bed was extremely comfortable. The room was beautifully styled and I loved Brian's artwork as seen from the bathroom window! The breakfast was outstanding with delicious homemade produce.
Frances and Brian are the epitome New Zealand B& B owners.
We arrived in the late afternoon totally drenched after a jet boat ride to see white herons (in a nearby area) which had concluded with a rain and sleet downpour. Brian and Frances had seen the weather reports and knew we would likely be arriving wet and tired. The garden cottage was waiting for us with its double spa bath! They hung our wet clothing in their furnace room so that it would be dry and warm the next morning. The bed was great and the breakfast the next morning with its many options was delicious. Brian and Frances both knew the area well and offered information about tourist areas and highways that was extremely useful. Loved this B & B.
