I enjoyed my time at Kiwi Base camp in Christchurch & would stay here again!
The room I was in was bright, airy and reasonably clean. The staff were also quite friendly.
It would've been nice if the kitchens were a little cleaner (although that was probably more to do with the guests than the staff!) & had more tea towels in them! Also, some more fridge space would've been great. All that aside, my stay was lovely & the fresh bread in the morning was really great! 😊

The room is located next to a very busy road! Sleeping impossible... The stuff was friendly. I can not comment on social life, kitchen, hang out area etc. Because I just stayed for 9 hours (one night) Also Christchurch is not a place you need to go in general

Hi There, Thank you for taking the time to review us, We are sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your stay in Christchurch, There are some amazing things to do while you are here, but it sounds like you may have arrived later in the evening and left earlier in the day, there is the beautiful Botanical Gardens as well as the Canterbury Museum, the Art Centre and Art Gallery, as well as things to see and do in the centre itself, we are also located not far from some beautiful beaches as well as some fantastic walks at the port hills, It's good to hear that the staff were friendly they are also very approachable and if you had let us know about the noise then we may have been able to find an alternative room, We have some great communal areas to hang out in as well as 2 kitchens and a fantastic garden area, If you are in Christchurch again we would love to take the time to show you around and hopefully change your mind, Wishing you all the best on your travels, Kind regards, Laura and the Kiwi Basecamp Team.

Good value for money, but I had trouble sleeping in Room 10 next to Bealey Avenue on a Saturday night due to rowdy boy-racers and sirens (double-glazing might fix this problem). Liked the home-made bread smell in the morning and the floury footprints on the carpet near kitchen door...

Hi There, Thanks for taking the time to review us, We are sorry to hear that the noise from the cars kept you awake and take onboard the comments about the double glazing, however the council are doing there best to combat the problem, The bread is amazing to wake up to in the morning and super tasty, haha the footprints are not always there but make for a good path to the deliciousness, Enjoy the rest of your trip, Laura

Good location if you want to be in a quieter area in Christchurch. Next to one of the main entrances to the Botanic Garden. 15-20 minutes walking from the city centre.
A bit small dorms but really confortable beds and clean sheets.
Enough bathrooms and two kitchens, so it weren't packed.
Really nice living room and garden.
Staff were nice and helpful.
There is free WiFi and you can also use a computer there.
100% recommended.

Hi There, Thanks for taking the time to write a review for us, and we are happy you enjoyed your stay at Kiwi Basecamp, We have a great location that has really nice cafe's and restaurants as well as the beautiful Hagley Park and Botanical Gardens so close to us for our guests to enjoy, The layout of this house is great with kitchens and bathrooms upstairs and down so you never feel that it is overcrowded, Our garden is great to relax outside on nice days but it's fantastic that it is partly covered to keep you out of the elements, and have 2 lounges that you can relax in wither you want to curl up and read a book or relax in the T.V lounge and watch a movie or two. Having FREE WiFi is a must, it is important to be able to catch up with family and friends and be able to upload and download at your convenience. Having great staff is key we want you to have the best possible time when you are with us, Looking forward to seeing you again in the future, Kind regards, Laura and The Kiwi Basecamp Team.

I booked a 6 mixed dorm. The room is so small, you dont have much space to put your bag and everything. They use the electronic lock door, the door is heavy and when it close it creates noise. I couldnt sleep well because of the whole night ppl keep banging the door.
The staff didnt introduce anything about the hostel to me and was telling me to ask about the transport when I leave the next day early morning. he told me that someone will be on duty in the morning. Luckily I asked the him when I check in, because I didnt see any on duty staff in that morning.

I am so glad that I only stayed one night

Hi There, Thanks for the feedback, We are sorry to hear that you had a few issues when staying with us, The doors that are fitted have to heavy as they are regulation fire doors and are there to ensure your safety, it is unfortunate that the guests who stayed with you that evening did not take care in closing the doors quieter. The electronic locks are there so there is no need for keys therefore no need for key deposits which our guests have been very happy with, We are looking into re-configuring the room that you stayed in, I was disappointed to hear that the staff did not let you know about the hostel, as a rule that is done when we check you in, we always make that all our staff let our guests know the layout of the hostel and are as helpful as possible. Sorry that there was no one around when you checked out they may have been in one of our kitchens or talking with a guest in the lounge or you may have checked out before the next staff member was due to start. If you are in Christchurch again, we would love for you to come and stay with us so we can show you that we take good care of our guests when they are with us, we would also ensure that we put you in a four bed share, Kind regards, Laura and The Kiwi Basecamp Team
