Best option in Christchurch. Room has everything you need and is super clean. Val the owner is amazing. Kind and unbelievably accommodating. My mom and I were in Christchurch for almost three weeks since my dad was in the hospital in the area. Val did everything she could to help us when we needed it including rides to the hospital. Avon city motel was not the closest place to the hospital but we chose to stay there the whole time since the room s were great and we felt safe and comfortable there. Val has become a friend and if we are ever back in Christchurch we will definitely stay there again. Please recommend Avon city motel to anyone staying in Christchurch.

Located in Redwood just down from the Styx Bridge and off the main road leading into Christchurch. Simple motel units that are comfortable and clean/tidy with all the basic appointments.
The rooms all face the street and windows appear to be double glazed. Once the windows and doors were closed the road noise dropped considerably. A large shower with average flow is a bonus for the larger travellers trying to get clean without contortionist behaviours. We heard little noise from our neighbours in the adjoining units.
We stayed in a unit that had two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other two small singles. Both comfortable.
This complex has immaculate gardens, all in colour at the time of our stay and well maintained.
Ironically, I remembered staying at this motel 35 years ago when my brother got married. We are back again for his sons wedding. It has lasted the test of time.

Yes, all the windows facing the street are double glazed and once they are closed, it's amazing how quiet it is...minimal traffic noise. Our showers are a good size...we know what you mean by "contortionist behaviours" as we have stayed in motels with very small shower cabinets and it is quite a feat to wash oneself. We are pleased that you found everything to your liking and hope to see you sometime in the future...perhaps when there is another wedding in the family. Although, if it is in 35 years time we just may have moved on! Val and David

Stayed here for 2 weeks while working in Christchurch area situated in Redwood so location was good for accessing main roads. Friendly proprietors, room was comfortable, clean & well serviced, the gardens were amazing. Friendly proprietors. Free wifi was limited per day of stay. A couple of shopping malls located 5 - 10 minutes away.

We had a wonderful stay at this motel. Val, one of the owners, was so accommodating by stay up until 1am to hand us the keys, some fresh milk and welcome us. She had put on the heating in our room some hours before and it was lovely and warm and welcoming. She also organised a taxi for us and gave us a discount voucher for the taxi. We slept in the most comfortable and warm bed that we have ever slept in. If we could have packed up the bed and taken it back with, we would have. Thank you Val and we will be staying with you again.
