Higher end home stay / bed and breakfast style accommodation.
Food was amazing!
Hosts were welcoming.
We left with a tub of delicious trout pate.
Views of the lake from our room.
A great place for high achievers and hard workers to stay.
In the middle of winter in Taupo, a golf trip not for the faint hearted. Taupo Lodge was a delightful sanctuary, warm and welcoming in a stunning setting with amazing views and the mountain did lift her skirts to show off.
What was even more stunning was the hospitality afforded by Gary. A beautiful glass of wine as soon as we settled into our more than comfortable room. He even washed the ice off the car windows in the morning, and in the evening drove us to town when we went out for dinner.
Food was outstanding, wine beautiful and plentiful, Gary was interesting to talk to and interested in sharing the background of the Lodge and the area. Quite a character.
Couldn’t have enjoyed the stay more.
My wife and I stayed at Lake Taupo Lodge for a few nights during our honeymoon in December 2019. Gary and the rest of the staff were extremely welcoming, and our room and the rest of the lodge were clean and absolutely beautiful. The food prepared by Chris was also delicious. I enjoyed talking with Gary about all things fishing and I will always have great memories of the lodge for that reason. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Carl & I checked in on Friday night, feeling tired and was welcomed by one of the staff. She was so friendly and helpful, told us exactly where we’ll find our room and where the restaurant was. We got to our room and it was just beautiful! It was comfy and tidy. The bed was so comfy ! Dinner upstairs was delicious! We’ve definitely discovered a jewel !! We will definitely be back with the whole family!! Thanks guys for making our mini break super special 👍🏻👍🏻⭐️
My wife and I stayed at the Lake Taupo Lodge in late January, 2020 for two nights. We were touring New Zealand for four weeks. When we pulled into the driveway the owner Gary came out and greeted us by name. "We've been expecting you. So glad you'll be staying with us. How was your drive?" I've traveled extensively around the world in recent years and never, ever experienced such a friendly reception at any place of lodging. I almost started to laugh. But, I didn't as I quickly realized Gary was sincere in his uncommon hospitality. But it also wasn't an overbearing hopitality. Our room had a beautiful view of the lake in the distant. The grounds are a botanical delight. We didn't have dinner there which was unfortunate because I'm certain it would have been exceptional. Gary did direct us to good restaurants in town. Breakfast was prepared by the chef Chris. I know it's only breakfast but it was elegant and delicious. My wife took a picture of her breakfast plate it was so pretty. We made friends with the one other couple staying there. They were from the UK. We shared drinks at happy hour and went out to dinner one night. The owner Gary was most interested in discussing the political events back in the USA. We had some interesting conversations about political matters. And the room was phenomenal. The porch was a great place to unwind overlooking the gardens and Lake Taupo. Another reviewer titled their review "Died and Gone to Heaven". Not an exaggeration. What an all around great lodging experience..
