I stayed at the Surf City B+B Lodge as a little treat to myself during my travel through NZ at the end of 2013. Not only did Barry pick me and drop me off ready for my connecting buses, but following my request to get up to see the sun rise - Barry kindly obliged!
The room was large and extremely comfortable, the lodge is situated away from the centre (but only a short walk away), in a lovely secluded area, surrounded by a beautiful garden (full of their own fruit and veg).
Lovely hosts and good food. The home-brewed beer was extremely tasty.
Thank you to the both of you and all the best for the New Year.

No problem. I use your recommended time lapse app often now.

Hard to imagine a better B&B experience really. Barry was someone I could have a real conversation with, and useful information was exchanged! He produced a great breakfast too, catering to my vegetarian needs. My room was excellent, with a more comfortable bed than my own, which is saying something. An amazing old house, and everything very clean. Definitely the place to stay in Gisborne.

Plenty of room to spread out and relax in this beautiful old house, and breakfast to rival top hotel offerings...
Loved the comfy bed and character house. And the breakfast made to match our exact tastes, from piping hot flat white to sizzling fresh whitebait fritters. The huge Kowhai tree in full bloom viewed from the bedroom window was a special bonus! Great place to stay, handy to everything.

Host and hostess, Barry and Ros Thomas looked after me superbly, providing exemplary service during my 6 day stay in Gisborne. Their kindness went well beyond anything I have experienced before and they most certainly deserve the accolade of First Place 2015 Certificate of Excellence Trip Advisor Award which I spotted on display in their dining room. I went there on the recommendation of my sister who had a memorable stay there. Due to personal circumstances I was under considerable stress and the warmth of the hosts, their service and attention to detail meant I was able to relax in the mornings and evenings which helped enormously to 'get me through the day'. And the complimentary evening BBQ was just lovely and most appreciated.

What a great place!! Came to Gisborne with no accommodation booked, read the reviews and it lives up to every single one of them!! Barry and Roz are legends. Room was great and comfy, super clean and tidy. Both of them are happy to go out of there way to look after you!! Came to surf and on the first morning Barry took us for a drive to all the breaks that would be working to save us time and put us on to a pumping break with just the two of us out!! On our last night we came back and Barry had a roast in the oven and cold beer in the fridge! If your going to stay anywhere in Gisborne this is the place!!
Not to mention the breaky!! Enough to keep you going all day!
