We would just like to say thanks to Joanne and her staff for making our stay at Great Keppel so wonderful. Even though we live on a boat, Joanne was more than happy to get supplies we needed over the 6 weeks we were there, and at one stage when we had a lack of water, let us have showers in the Honeymoon Suite. That was fantastic of her. We also had some lovely meals over there. Thanks Jo, we will be back.

This is possibly the most difficult review I have had to write.

The island is so beautiful and we most certainly experienced the bushwalks and deserted beaches during our few days stay. There are some amazing sights to be seen and some incredible lookouts. We went on a two or so hour bushwalk and saw the tracks of turtles who had laid eggs in the sand dunes, wild goats, fed possums and Rosellas. We recommend the bushwalk to the Lookout and then down to Leekes Beach. Beautiful! We had to scale some rocks on the beach at high tide to get back to our Cabin which was really exciting!

The mess that humans have made on this island is deplorable. Our boat arrived in the middle of Main Beach and the first sight was the closed down Great Keppel Island Resort with its construction fences and empty pools. It was as if you could feel the ghosts of good times gone by, from when the island was in its hayday.

Keppel Haven itself has so much potential! It made my husband and I want to give it a huge clean up. We were upgraded to the Honeymoon suite which is smack bang on the beach, but also smack bang in the middle of the staff quaters. The manager to one side, groundskeeper to the other and behind a couple of young backpackers who were cleaners. The room was neat, clean and had most things that we needed. The room is advertised as fully self contained and contains fridge, freezer, aircon, cooking materials, drinking water provided by Management. There is no clothes dryer or washer. No condiments so ensure you bring your own. We took all of our meals prepared so we would microwave or re-heat them to save cooking time. We had a meal at Keppel Haven Bistro which was around $22 per meal. A basic bottle of wine was roughly $20 and a glass of spirit $10. The Bistro is open for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is apparently on request.

Management themselves go by 'Island Time' (their words, not ours) which I believe is just an excuse for laziness. They arent the most professional bunch around but very friendly.

In the end, go if you are wanting some beautiful bushwalks, gorgeous beaches because this is what will make this holiday great. The island is somewhere that I probably wouldnt visit again but am glad that I did.

The island is worth seeing, truely beautiful and secluded. But Keppel Haven is a run down mess.. the room appeared to be well cleaned but the dampness of the room gets to your clothes so keep them zipped up. We did have to wait of an hour or so when we got there, which is odd when all the rooms are free. It is over priced for what it is.
We did not have a working shower, and the communal ones were very grotty and only 1 out of the 6 worked. The pathways are covered in possom poo which can be very slippery and unwelcome if you wanted to walk barefoot to the beach. The shared kitchens were also covered in possom faeces around all appliances and on work surfaces, took some time to find a working hob.
Drinking water can only be retrieved from reception. The food is pricey so good to bring your own but things that can be eaten cold would be handy.
The staff were friendly but when you are paying those prices you expect better facilities. We made sure we spent as much time on the beaches as possible. There is another accommodation option next door which may be better. Island was worth going to and monkey beach snorkelling is a must do!

Arriving on the Island I strolled to Keppel Haven and was made to wait until a room was ready about an hour or so. The Room was clean but run down taps dripped shower was a wet room with the toilet in there which gets wet when you shower so you track muddy footprints for the rest of your stay. Minimal cutlery and other eating utensils. The staff there do a great job cleaning these run down cabins it is a credit to them the managment of the Resort are fair from friendly and very tardy at phone answering and service. Would recomend that there are better places to stay that would appreciate your business.
