This is a wonderful place and so full of character. Beautifully restored with wonderfully clean and comfortable beds. This is probably the first place that I have ever stayed away from home with pillows that are perfect for me.
It was very hot when we were there but there is no way that you could expect air conditioning in such a historic building. We had a fan in our room and fabulous old wodden shutters to keep us cool.
Towels sitting in a basket for the pool is a lovely touch and the pool is beautiful. Never mind the stunning view! For 'wilting' women like me, the large sofas under the huge lean to shaded area were superb.
It is quite unusual and cannot really be compared to other places. Eva and her staff are so welcoming and, once you have found your way through the huge green door, it is a little home from home. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble and being able to sit out in the courtyard with a takeaway pizza was so much nicer than a restaurant for a couple of very tired travellers.
Wifi is dodgy, but free! There are corners so it is quite possible to get connected, but not necessarily in your room. I got a 3G/H signal most of the time so stayed connected.
It is not a hotel in the normal sense of the word - it is a place to relax, be trusted and left in peace. Wonderful!
My husband and I stayed in the Mas for 2 days and wished we could have stayed longer. It was a wonderful way to relax after a week of touring. The pool area with a covered sitting area, the flowers in the garden and courtyard were welcoming to our well-appointed "Le Petite Maison" which was an apartment with everything we needed. It included a washing machine, dishwasher, and a private seating area outside. The hostess, Stephanie, attended to our every need. She was the best! We also enjoyed the charming bar and dining room. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Mas when you are traveling in the area. Be sure and visit the cave de Chauvet--a UNESCO sight. It is a replica of a cave with paintings from 36,000 years ago.
My husband and I stayed in this beautiful hotel in December for our Christmas treat, Lovely and comfortable accommodation full of character, superbly decorated bedrooms, with breath taking views across the vineyards great location for visiting places of interest in the area
Breakfast was all we could ask for.
Will be returning in the summer to get to use the wonderful pool!!!!!
We stayed in this beautiful place only for a night. We are a family of 7 so it's difficult to find suitable accommodation in some hotels. We were well looked after here by Eva. We booked a triple room and an apartment (which by no means was small!) and Eva put in 2 extra bed for the children. What a wonderful place full of character (I believe it dates back hundreds of years). It has been beautifully decorated and it certainly is a place that would be a fabulous place for a couple. Nevertheless it was a great place for us with our 5 kids. One of the first things Eva told us was to take towels, goggles, toys etc from the hall for the beautifully heated pool at the rear of the property, kids didn't need to be told twice. She also said we could use a large sitting room downstairs to watch TV and we could order takeaway pizza and eat it there. (They do provide a meal if you order in time but we have fussy kids). We had a very comfortable night sleep and awoke to a lovely continental breakfast with fresh croissants and roll and the girls making the breakfast made hot chocolate for all our kids. Although it says depart by 10.30am/11am they didn't pressure us as we misplaced an item and didn't get to go until after 11am.
All in all I would throughly recommend this lovely house. I would definately stay again when I am in the area. The only problem we had was with the wi-fi which some if my older kids couldn't get.
I don't understand some of the previous reviews!
A really beautiful place away from Ales. Our room was well appointed and we had a good night despite the blowing Mistral and a swim. However, our meal was extremely ordinary (24E for melon and parma ham, steak and ice cream) and breakfast was average. There is no sense of hospitality as bar and common rooms were deserted and service reduced to bare minimum (one smiling girl running everywhere). Pity, with a more professionnal and generous owner this could really be a gem.
