We stopped here for 4 nights to break the A2O and to meet up with friends. The check in was seamless and our room was clean, spacious and comfortable with a small kitchenette and even a bathtub. . The view out over the lake is stunning and we were lucky to have beautiful weather.. There was only one chair in the room which was annoying as there was no outdoor furniture to use.
The laundry facilities are not the best and it was hard to get a turn at using the machine.
The staff added to our enjoyment of our stay. Coping with big groups, individual needs, food allergies etc is no mean feat and they managed everything with patience and good humor and professionally. The meals were amazing and we enjoyed the shared lounges, gardens and games room
Thank you for having us.

Stayed one night on our trip around the South Island and wanted to try somewhere different .
The place is certainly not flash but has all facilities you would likely need. We took the room, dinner and breakfast package which for the standard of accommodation is pretty expensive . Dinner was a set menu with 2 options and breakfast was standard fair . In my option what really let the accommodation down was the quality of the bed, as it was so damn hard and no aircon which made for a very uncomfortable night.
The staff were helpful and friendly

Thank you so much for staying with us. I always imagine what it must be like for our guests who come here for the first time, taking that turn off the main road and then ending up at the lake with that absolutely spectacular view of the mountains ahead. I imagine on a bike it would be even better. We believe that our prices are fair and would hardly ever receive the comment that we are expensive. We do have 4 standards so that we can cater to all budgets. The property was built in the 50's - 70's so aircon was not a thing. There are plenty of opening windows and doors and we also have Dyson aircoolers at reception available to guests. I'm sorry that you found the bed hard. They are a flexible slat bed with fluffy toppers on the mattress. I have slept on them recently and they are firm but I don't think hard. Thanks for the comments on our beautiful staff. They love to read the reviews so will appreciate your comments. Kindest regards Louise

Stayed on our Alps 2 Ocean ride and really enjoyed the experience. The lodge is a wonderful building and an example of brilliant design. The scenery is simply stunning and the staff were universally friendly and helpful. My dinner was disappointing (staffing is very tough for NZ hospitality providers currently). However, the dining room is lovely, company was good and staff great. Breakfast was very good as were our pack lunches.

That is very kind of you to give us such a glowing report. I so love this building too. When we came here 31 years ago and if we'd had the money I'm sure I would have stripped out a lot of what makes it gorgeous today. As time has gone on the beautiful rock art panels in the hallways and the funny old light fittings in the restaurant - all speak of the era that this place was built in. Our staff ARE universally friendly and helpful and it is lovely that they are recognised. I'm so sorry that your meal was disappointing and, as you allude to, we have been struggling to find a Sous Chef. We are now hoping that we have appointed someone but our young guy has been doing his absolute best when he is in the kitchen on his own. When our Head Chef is on, the meals are out of this world! I hope that your Alps2Ocean experience continued to be great. How lovely to cycle slowly through this beautiful landscape. We hope to see you again. Kind regards Louise

We stayed at Lake Ohau Lodge for 2 nights. The room was clean and tidy. The food was outstanding. The cooked breakfast was lovely and the evening meal was 10/10 top quality. The service in the restaurant and front desk was excellent.

We stayed the night before the fire. So sad for all those people.
Our room was very basic - don't think it had been renovated since I stayed there in 1970s! But the staff were very pleasant and helpful and the evening meal was the highlight. Well done chef!

Thank you for writing. We do have darling staff and an excellent chef so thank you for recognising that. We have 4 standards of accommodation ranging from basic to what we consider to be luxury. This is a Kiwi alpine lodge. We have renovated every wing since we arrived here in the 90's, always with the vision of maintaining the original feel of the place. I do hope you can return and stay in one of our better rooms one day! Kind regards Louise
