My husband and I stayed here for 3 night and it was absolutely beautiful! We were looking for an affordable place near Sorrento with great views and we found it. The room was spacious and clean and modern. It's a very small family-run hotel with just a few rooms, but the views from the balcony were fantastic! Lovely view of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius. My husband commented that he thought it was the most beautiful views of any hotel we've stayed at. Breakfast was yummy as well. Be advised that communication could be difficult with many of the staff/owners unless you speak Italian. One individual did speak English and was very helpful and friendly but wasn't always on site. On one occasion I did not have sufficient Italian to communicate what was needed, and they called the English speaker on the phone to have her speak with me and sort things out, which was much appreciated. Also be advised that there's not much within walking distance (plus I wouldn't necessarily advise walking on the narrow winding road without sidewalks in many places), so you'll need a car to go out for dinner, etc. This did not detract from the overall experience though. We were thrilled with our stay here and would not hesitate to come back.
Views of the bay and Vesuvius are breathtaking and with a relaxing atmosphere what more could you want, this family run business ticks most of the boxes with Giulia looking after us and being most helpful with lifts too and from the station, local info and recommended restaurants, with her mother presented freshly prepared breakfasts each morning which we had on the patio outside.
If possible get the room with the balcony, it makes the stay just perfect, sat outside of an evening after a day exploring.
If you have transport there is plenty of parking.
Totally recommend this beautiful and stunning place to stay.
Hope to return soon
The terraces and outdoor staircases at every turn opened vistas of the volcano Vesuvius and the glistening sea. All the levels gave these sweet nooks and crannies to breathe the air and look deeply into one another's eyes.
The rooms were so ingeniously thought out, with windows in the perfect places and curved ceiling entry ways, and deep thick walls to set the windows in. The design of our room was simple perfection.
The family feel of Villa MariaGiovanna embraced us through their garden, picking their tomatoes, eggplants and kicking around bolted basil planting the next patch. Living in Vico Equense, this family showed us how it was done!
We enjoyed our 3 night stay here but I think we might look at other places if we stayed in the area again.
Pros
-Safe parking
-Lovely view
-Nice & clean
-Good location for all areas
-Quiet in room to sleep
-Nice breakfast & communal table area
-The hosts let us store our bags here for a few hours on our check out day- thank you!
Cons
-Initially when we arrived we were shown a tiny room with a view of trees outside the room however we paid for a sea view room so after a bit of discussion we were moved into the upper floor with a sea view room (not the best start).
- Close to the road so there is road traffic noise but the shutters on the bedroom window (if all closed) did reduce all the noise.
- We couldn't really communicate with the hosts (our fault as we don’t speak Italian) so we couldn’t ask for tips, or any requests etc.
- Pastry & cake for 3 days for b/fast; I believe this is a typical Italian b/fast. We just would have loved some fruit or eggs or something different & it seems from other reviews this was possible but again without being able to communicate this wasn't an option for us.
- The rooms have quite a cold/ damp feeling however we were there in June so this was great after a long day in the sun but I imagine in the winter it would be very cold!
- A proper duvet would have been great! We only had a thin sheet & very thin blanket; the 1st night I had to sleep in all my fleece gear & fleece socks to keep warm. The following nights the temperature increased so didn't need as much to wear at night to keep warm.
This was our second time staying with this wonderful Italian family. Our accommodations are always amazing and you truly feel like you are part of the family. From Giovanna's homemade Italian breakfast brought to you either in your room to enjoy on the balcony or to enjoy in the garden to Guilia calling ahead to restaurants reserving you a table and transportation. The rooms are bright and cheery and the bathrooms are beautifully decorated. The villa is perfectly located close to all the famous locales to visit, such as Naples,Sorrento, Pompeii, Capri, Positano, Amalfi and Ravello! It is very obvious that the family that owns and runs the villa have put their heart and soul into their villa and want nothing but the absolute best for your experience. I promise you will have a wonderful stay and will never be ready to leave when the time comes. I am already planning my third trip back to the area and there is only one place for me to stay, Villa Mariagiovanna!!
