Overall:
A good $100 1-night-stay while waiting for next morning's flight. A/C not functional.

Positive:
The room: huge rooms, hardwood floors, couch in the room, desk with chair, full tub in the bathroom, balcony with desk & chair outside. Quiet but I was lucky insofar as my room faced courtyard

Service: friendly welcome with prompt check-in. A big thank you to the lady at the front desk who bent over backwards to get me a fan. Without the fan, this review would be entirely different. The staff also made me a little packed breakfast because of my early departure (06:45, breakfast doesn't start until 07:30!) - the gesture and the breakfast were really nice! :)

Negative:
The A/C. I like my room cool. The AC is merely a weak fan that blows a bit of air but has no cooling effect whatsoever. Thank god they had a fan they could give me (I think I got lucky there!)

The bed was a twin, and thus fairly small and somewhat uncomfortable. Noise could be heard on occasion from the hall but nothing during the night.

Breakfast hours:starts at 07:30am until 10am... I realize in Portugal one eats later, but standard breakfast hours start at 6am.

The final say:
An enjoyable stay. I would expect more comfort for $100 and I wouldn't rate this a 4-star hotel but I was impressed by the space and front-desk service.

We booked this hotel well in advance of our stay, knowing it is small, and very popular. The location couldn't be better. Just a few blocks from the harbor, restaurants, main square and market. It's an old-fashioned hotel in the best European sense. Low-key, extremely clean, polished wooden and stone floors. The staff is most courteous and very helpful, and speak English. They summoned our taxis, booked an island tour for us, and kept our luggage during an early arrival and late checkout. Breakfast is included, and while not especially varied, there was always something tasty to start the day. We asked for a quiet room and were placed towards the rear of the building with a view out over the rooftops and towards the church across the street. The street is a busy thoroughfare during the daytime, but was quiet at night, even with our windows open. Beds (twin) were comfortable, bathroom modern & clean, lighting very adequate. We booked directly from the U.S. and paid 50% in advance and the balance a week or so before arrival. Better arrangements might be made through an on-line booking agent. The price was about the same either way. We'll stay here again when we visit Ponta Delgada.

We picked this place because of location and thought it might be a charming change from the usual slick hotels. Sadly, arriving from a late flight were were given keys to our room but offered no help with luggage; the room smelled bad throughout our stay despite opening the window to air it, the minibar as a small fridge on the floor that didn't work (luckily we didn't need it) and we had to go and beg for a kettle to have tea in our room. The breakfast was also really poor. By the 4th day we just skipped in and went to a coffee shop nearby for excellent coffee and a pastry for 1 Euro. Plus we stayed over a weekend and their restaurant was closed. It might have been 4 star in the 80's but sadly it needs modernising and keeping of amenities open over the weekend.

Friendly staff and nice location of the hotel makes it a perfect stay in Azores. Room was decent and breakfast was brilliant with fresh fruit and cake. hotel close to marina and city centre and local shops.

Great location, very easy to street park close to the hotel (in late June). Staff was very friendly and breakfast was great. Room was decent size with large bathroom. Room did not face street and was quiet (however, I could occasionally hear a baby across the hall, but it was not an inconvenience)
