I stayed in the 6 bed female dorm.
Positive sides are that there is an individual locker for each guest in the room with a key. The bathroom is located outside the room in the corridor. In this corridor, there were bathrooms for men, women and mixed. The same for shower. The showers could be locked privately, this is good. The staff was very helpful and found a way for me to leave the luggage after check out and pick it up later. Internet worked well. Problematic was the fact that there were not enough power sockets into the room. There was a multiple power socket but it was not turned on. The cable was under my bed and I could not reach it to try to plug it somewhere. The location is good as you can reach the train station on foot, I did this with heavy luggage and survived. Many tram stops nearby too. Kitchen is available as well.

I stayed here for three nights, in a female dorm that could fit 8. At the most there were four of us. The top had single beds and double beds, all bunk, and I got to choose whichever I preferred. I took a lower double one, and it was very good - mattress not too soft not too hard, the lamp worked, lovely blue fitted sheet, the blanket was a little short but warm goose feather quality. It was a little cold in the room, also because the windows are very large and only open the regular way so when you want to air the room you let in too much of the cold air. You get a free locker, and there are little tables and chairs too, to put stuff on.
The toilets and shower facilities are great, very clean, everything working, enough soap and paper. I got a free towel (asked from reception). The showers are in individual booths, 29th a little bench to put your stiff on so it doesn't get wet. Also, huge plants, loved it!
There is a laundry room, also with ironing facilities.
The kitchen is fully equipped, fridge, induction plate cooking stove, electric kettle, microwave, all pots plates and cutlery. Nice eating area. There is the option of a 8 CHF breakfast, but the limited options (bread, bitter, cereal, OJ, coffee tea fruit) made me prefer to buy stuff from Aldi nearby.
Nice lounge areas, books and board games, a small back courtyard and a large front one (as part of a complex of companies, restaurant, theatre - all in a former factory).
Super awesome that you get the Basel Card included, all public transport free (including outskirts, I went to the Vitra complex and the Beyeler foundation) and 50% off for museum tickets.
Good Wi-Fi, ask for a room with good reception.
Very friendly staff.

We checked in late and they had a way to leave the key which is good.
They also give a free basel pass
We had a mix dorm which was full, a bit stuffy and not much space to move around. Quite hard to get up to the top bunk.
There was lockers in the room which was good.
The kitchen is small and there is also a small breakfast area.

very friendly , and enviromentally interesting place situated in Grundeldingel felds-an old factory which transformed in a cultural area! we had a separate double room without bathroom , but it was comfort and bright! The amenities need renovation generally-but it was good with friendly and helpful staff!

Everything in Switzerland costs so much, so you'll be thankful that Basel Backpack is half decent for being one of the cheapest on the block. It's about a 15 minute walk from the main part of the city, but it's better to take the tram which is actually free as you get a public transportation card when you stay anywhere in Basel. I like that a lot.

The location of Basel Backpack itself is actually quite funky. There's a very popular bar (Werk8) down the alleyway, a yoga studio, a circus training centre, a brewery, a plate factory - you get the picture. Some convenience stores/ supermarkets nearby too.

As for the place itself, it's not a 24/7 checkout but the staff are quite accommodating. Not especially friendly but did the trick. The room was fine, a mild Africa-like theme and didn't really encounter anyone else. I don't think there was any shared areas so not much in the way of a social aspect.
