The fact that we could not visit even though we prepaid the room due to the virus that is spreading rapidly in Italy should make the owner realize that it is not safe and make the exception and refund us as we cancelled almost a month in advance.
I am aware of my balance challenges so hauling luggage upstairs, or worse, downstairs, is not an option. Finding a hotel with a working elevator is important. We found what we needed in this hotel- a working elevator and beds for three people. The room was clean and huge, like an apartment with a small private hallway entrance to the room with the bathroom also off the hallway. We had 3 single beds, two were originally together but we separated the beds.
The staff really made a difference in our trip. They were friendly upon arrival but reserved. When we asked for their ideas and suggestions and they were marvelous in suggesting much better options! I truly appreciate them giving their time to help us make the best use of our time. They were kind, they were caring, they were informative, in all they and were wonderful!
This location is walkable to everything within the historic district but it is practically on top of the Basilica of Santa Croce! If you are interested in leather, the Scuola del Cuoio (The Florence Leather School) is nearby. The Bargello museum, known for impressive sculpture art is close as well. The Uffizi Gallery holding over 100 rooms for viewing incredible works of art is within a few blocks of the Hotel II Poeta Dante. This hotel offers a breakfast but we did not participate, however the breakfast room looked lovely. This is also near the University of Florence of the Arts, although the University uses a variety of buildings throughout the city. We couldn't believe our good fortune in staying and we would happily stay here again!
Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights when I visited Florence. I was very impressed with the hotel, it was very clean and our room was spacious and more like a studio apartment. Breakfast was simple continental but enough choice to ensure you are filled up before exploring. The hotel is right next to the Santa Croce cathedral which is a must to visit when you are there. All in all, this is a great basic hotel and I would recommend this place if you’re travelling to Florence
This hotel is everything and more. The staff were extraordinary who by the end of the week felt almost like friends, they went out of their way to be friendly and helpful and gave the most wonderful recommendations for things to do, places to go, where to eat etc.
The room was spotlessly clean and had everything we could have wanted and needed, including air conditioning e WiFi. The location of this little gem is arguably it's biggest positive, everything is a short walk from the doors of this special place. We will be back again and again. Couldn't recommend highly enough, what great value for money and the perfect base for a special holiday in the most beautiful place.
We did a first reservation, just for August 14th., because we intended to stay only one day. However, we changed our minds and did another reservation (a new one), in order to stay more one day. The first day was good, the room was great, the staff took our luggage before the check in time, what helped a lot. The breakfast was outside the hotel, in a coffe shop near there. The problem occurred over the second reservation. We needed to change the room, even asking to stay in the first one (cheaper). But it wasnt possible. So, when we arrived at night, before 11pm, we realized that the ar-conditioner wasnt working properly (only the mode “fan”). In summer time, the weather around 30o C, we couldnt ask for support from no one, because there was no one staff and we couldnt sleep well. Over the check out, we warned the staff about the air-condition’s problem and they just answered: “We’ll check”. No apologizes, no empathy, no politeness, nothing. We almost didnt sleep and they just said: we’ll check. TOTALLY NONSENSE! DECEPTION!
