Part 1:

Booked via Booking.com: last room, (supposedly) twin beds, but sold as an offer for single bed. Average customers reviews: 8,8, listed on the Booking.com website.

Name on Booking.com is: Castle View Accommodation. Address is: 28 Ardconnel Street. However, you are redirected to 36 Ardconnel Street and the name listed is: City Guest House.

As soon as I arrive, reality hits me: the room is so little that it is not possible to open your luggage on the floor as there is not enough space. Also, the bathroom door will not open completely, as there is no space.
The window in the room cannot be open completely as there is a wardrobe in the way that blocks it.
NB: there is NO reception! If you need to talk to someone, you talk through a doorbell that connects you with somebody in another city. I had problems as my door was not closing automatically: i.e. I should have left my luggage unattended and with an open door. They would have sent someone to look at it in 1 hour! No possibility earlier.
I found the guy who was supposed to help me, smoking weed outside of the entrance; he was also drunk! Meanwhile another guest had helped me to figure out the door problem: there was an on-off switch hidden behind the door. The doorbell person apparently didn’t know of it.

There was yet another problem: the microscopic bathroom had a window that could not open at all and could not be fixed either!
Also: no breakfast included, and not even a map of the city you are in. Nothing is mentioned about this.

To open the entrance and to open the room, there is a code of about 8 digits. The code is always the same. So, if a previous customer decides to come back, he can easily enter with no problems.

Part 2:

When I decided to sleep more surprises were there:
The curtains were almost falling off and I noticed they were badly stained of a dodgy white substance. There was mold in the shower + some dodgy white foam hanging on the shower door, left by the previous customer. Only 1 towel, no soap/shampoo, no hair dryer. The duvet was in PAPER and stunk, dirty wardrobe and the bedside light was not working!

I woke up at 4am, because the paper duvet was making me sweat and it smelled like feet. The mattress is also full of bumps btw!

I decided that I could not stay longer and booked another hotel. In the morning I tried to tell the owner, Mr Alester, that i wanted to leave for all above mentioned reasons and I would have liked my money back.

He refused. I mentioned I felt unsafe without a Reception and he gave me this answer: I should have been travelling with a man! (I am a solo traveller). I asked if he was making discriminatory remarks and he hanged up on me.

Horrible experience! It feels like a real fraud!
Do not go, for your own sake.

The positives are:
1. this guest house is very near central Inverness;
2. it has a roof.

I stayed here because almost everywhere else was booked out or charging ludicrous prices (eg, €585 for the Palace Hotel!) due to the Marathon taking place.

I should have slept in the car in a lay-by rather than pay €100 for a dirty room and no breakfast.

When we first arrived there was no-one to show us our room..I went away and returns a while later..still no-one. We walked in and found a number to phone was told over the phoned our room not how to find it! There are no lets just punch number locks. We had a basement room that had a terrible smell...two non working air fresheners made no difference! Someone had used the toilet and not bothered even flushing it! The window Was a bit dodgy.not even hand soap! There Was a hand drier...didn't work! Getting the picture? The smell wasn't good and would put anyone Off alone.I won't be going back and wouldn't recommend staying here.
