Stayed for a reunion dinner at BRNC. Shelly and Olly made me most welcome. Slept well in a lovely bedroom (Cabin 1) looking South out over the Dart estuary. Room well appointed and lots of space. Impressive breakfast that set me up for the day, again in a South-facing setting with a good view. A good find, recommended.

We stayed for 2 nights whilst attending a reunion at the Naval College. The hotel provides on site parking for guests staying in each of the two rooms and is in an ideal situation above the town which is a few minutes walk down the hill and is a few yards from the bus stop for the return journey. The room was extremely comfortable and everything we could possibly need was provided including binoculars to admire the view. The breakfast was excellent. Shelly and Olly, our hosts, were most welcoming and made our stay memorable- a home away from home. Thank you.

Lovely comfortable room in a stylish house. We had a delicious breakfast with attention paid to little details. I really enjoyed my veggie breakfast. Perfect host. I would highly recommend staying here. Also I love a place that provides lovely bathrobes. First class stay.

From making a booking enquiry until the day we checked out, Shelly and Olly made us feel so welcome.

Even though I booked months in advance, Shelly took time to give me recommendations and suggested I book a restaurant early for a Thursday night in high season - she wasn’t wrong! We witnessed several parties being turned away without reservation from a few restaurants.

We stayed in cabin one which was exactly as pictured with the most stunning views down to the harbour. There are only two rooms which adds to the feeling of exclusivity and privacy. The rooms don’t lock from the outside but we didn’t have any concerns about that - guests are asked to ensure the main external door is locked, just as you would at home.

One thing I noticed is how quiet it is at night - we slept wonderfully in the huge bed.

The accommodation is just beautiful but it’s Shelly’s hospitality that really made the experience for us. On the first day at breakfast Shelly asked for our tea and sauce choices, on the second day we didn’t need to say a thing - I had a pot of earl grey brought over and my husband’s brown sauce was at the table before we even sat down.

Similarly, when I asked to borrow an iron, Shelly offered to iron my dress that hadn’t travelled well and my husband’s ‘fresh out of the packer’ shirt. They were hanging beautifully in our room when we returned from our walk.

We borrowed a local walking guide and Shelly filled up our water bottles took the time to explain the reality of the hilly terrain, meaning we modified our route and I didn’t keel over!

We also made use of the guest lounge and garden - both relaxing spaces where we were never disturbed or made to feel like intruders. Shelly even offered us fizz glasses if we decided to open a bottle in the sunshine.

The secure onsite car park was important for us- once we parked up we didn’t use the car again until we left, despite the hills.

Appletree guest house is like no other we’ve ever had the pleasure to stay in. Shelly and Olly are genuinely nice people who made us feel like old friends and if we stay in Dartmouth again, we’ll definitely stay here!

We received a very warm welcome from Shelly into her beautiful home. We were in Cabin 1 - a large, light, airy, beautifully furnished and equipped room with lovely views across the valley down to the River Dart and beyond. The en-suite was equally tasteful and huge. It was a pleasant walk down the hill into town and so nice to be able to leave the car behind in the private car park. Fresh fruit with yogurt was a perfect start the following morning followed by Shelly's delicious cooked breakfast. We had a lovely stay in this peaceful and restful oasis in beautiful Dartmouth.which we very much hope to return to. Thank you for your outstanding hospitality.
