We booked the room at the last minute, but when we arrived everything ran really smoothly. Tom was hugely helpful and the room we upgraded to was lovely. The room was spacious, light, clean and well stocked.
Couldn't fault it really!
Been stopping here 4 nights a week through working commitments,,the place is lovely, old building but rooms are nice,,Im in room 3 ,really large with a double and 2 singles + ensuite ,,Tom the guy who runs the place is very helpful in all needs. Enjoying my stay here, and whenever I vist chester with the wife ,thieves the place I'll be calling 1st.👍
Lovely bed and breakfast. Kind and friendly owners. Bedroom and bathroom very clean and tidy. We were given a better room after a late cancellation which was nice! Would definitely recommend and hopefully be back soon!
Having booked this accommodation in early August, via Booking.com (with free cancellation) for a family weekend at the end of November, I have now been advised that my booking has been cancelled!
The reason given was my payment cards were not valid. Whilst checking the payment details at booking stage I noticed that the accommodation check for validity 60 days prior to arrival (this being the end of September in our case). My card was due for renewal shortly but this would be covered and my husbands details were also included just in case. I was also surprised that they checked so early as the 60 day deadline was not due for 3 weeks but I knew there was sufficient funds to cover, although it was meant to be a validity check only.
I called Bay Tree Lodge with the intention of giving them my details direct just in case they had got them wrong but was told by Tom that you need at least SIX MONTHS before your cards expire to be accepted! They had cancelled my booking & the room had been re-let. Why wasn't I told this when booking, as my card would never be accepted as we only had 4 months to arrival. Having had a bank account for 30+ years it has never been declined and I have never heard of a 6 months validity (bearing in mind they are only reissued about 2 weeks before expiry).
I was given the 'opportunity' to book an available room at their sister B&B, Kilmorey Lodge at a greater cost! It would have been nice to be offered the same rate as previously but I'm not sure how they would have got me to pay for it anyhow, as they wouldn't accept my cards! Maybe they would have for the higher amount (cynical, I know). Not surprisingly, I declined.
I also phoned the Booking.com helpline who were sympathetic and offered to find alternative accommodation but family rooms are difficult to find at a reasonable price at the best of times. They were not aware of Bay Tree Lodge's policy of 6 months validity but are looking into it.
Both Tom at the B&B and the lady at Booking.com were polite and understanding but I am left with a 7 year old little boy upset because we may have to cancel his trip to Chester Zoo.
Stayed in a family room for one night with my wife, daughter and grandson aged 5 on a visit to Chester Zoo.
The room was really comfortable and clean in an ideal location.
Will without doubt return in the future
