We (2 families with 5 kids) visited Vargiani @ Arxontolithos couple of days before the New Year’s Eve. We knew that the village is quiet. It has two taverns and one coffee shop. The place we booked to stay was nice, clean and some of the rooms have fireplace. The big disadvantage is that Arxontolithos doesn’t have a place to stay in the evening. In our case, there was snow outside and the temperature was between -10oC to -5oC. We spent some time at the Coffee Shop “Scholeio” but we had to leave early because the owner had to leave early due to the bad road conditions caused from the low temperatures. When we asked the owner of Arxontolithos to open the lounge room she couldn’t do it because it was set up for breakfast (unfortunately I didn’t read “MVAK” review of 2009). Consequently, we had to stay one day out of the three we had booked. Nevertheless, in case you want (couples only) to visit the place, I do recommend it. If you have kids and it is winter think of it twice and call Mrs Dimitra (who is very friendly) and ask her if the lounge room she is building is ready to accommodate you.

The village is really amazing and is the centre of many activities. There are three taverns where you could find delightful food. The guest house is traditional constructed with stone and wood. The rooms are commodious, clean and have modern comforts. Breakfast room is small but it is very cozy and charming. The breakfast was delicious!!! The pool is not very big but it is very clean and has also jacuzzi program. The owner is very friendly hospitable and accomodating. The comfortable and pleasant stay could offer you memorable experience. It was the most beautiful and clean guest room I have ever gone...!!!

The village is great (Vargiani) and peaceful. Be careful because there are no shops in the village apart from a tavern which is closed in lunch time(!) during the week. It can get busy on Saturdays and Sundays. Views are breathtaking and it is a nice walk around this traditional village. Rooms are clean and nicely decorated. There is also a small pool.
Breakfast room is extremely small and when hotel is full there is not enough room for everybody. The big disadvantage is that there is no lounge or a room that we can use in the evenings (take into account that there is nothing else in the village). We were three families with very young children and in the evenings there was nowhere to go or to do like a common room or a lounge. The owner is friendly and nice but she was reluctant to at least let us use the breakfast room. We arrived late in the evening and there was snow everywhere. To reach the front door with a two year old was a little bit of an adventure.
Don't miss the mining park (http://www.vagonetto.gr) especially if you have children. It is around 10 minutes drive from Vargiani.
It is overrated (16 Euro) per person but staff is friendly and the experience is unique.
