They put us in a room right above a big wedding party. We called the reception and they told us that our room was right above the party. They moved us into a more quiet room right away, which begs the question: if they know they have a party going on, why don't they assign their guests to more quiet rooms right away?
The design is rather old-fashioned.
Breakfast isn't very good, not up to standard of hotels in similar price ranges.
This hotel reminds me of the late DDR. Orange uniforms for the staff and dinner is with lots of cooked vegetables.
The room is nice, large with a old fashioned decor...green and wood....Very clean and with a view over a park, so very quiet. Large bathroom.
Breakfast is good, but the lunch box is something I could do without. One day we had a large schnitzel in the lunch box...to eat with your hands? One day a cold sausage. Not my idea of lunch.
The dinner was also a step back in time or a meeting with the kind of german food one could do without. Lots of marinated, cooked vegetables. No fresh salats. Lots og herring and very sweet desserts. Not really my kind of favorit food. Not that you couldn't find something to eat. One day they hat chicken, tasted nice, not overcooked or anything. Cooked vegetables wasn't overcooked. But again, I would have liked som fresh salat and a choice of other side dishes other than the extensive use of marinated cooked vegetable.
Internet is free but remember to get an access to each device.
Staff is overall nice, especially the nice french born lady who do the eggs at the breakfast table. She has a lot to do in the morning and sometimes she was the only one in the restaurant, so we had to ask her, to ask the other staff members to get more cheese, more milk and so on. Dont know why the other staff were doing on those very busily mornings????
But a nice visit with some lacking. But we had o nice time in spite.
refurbished hotel with standard rooms but excellent beddings. No reception of internet in room - but in entrance hall, the breakfast buffet was excellent with a great variety of fresh food and fruit, you got 1 extra point for this!
Service at beverage area, meaning the bar is very bad and needs improvement, the bar man served the guests without to re open the lights,as his hint was his "Feierabend" at 21.00 h.All in all if you are on a leisure trip and you just want to relax it's to be recommended.
In the middle of the Isle of Ruegen, Parkhotel Ruegen is strategically located to two gas-stations (Oil and Shell) and two grocery stores Aldi / Nachkauf within half a mile.
It's allegedly a four-star assigned hotel, a designation which I am not convinced to confirm from my point of view. Although the room, the wellness area and the breakfast buffet choice are not bad, the restaurant boss ought to put an eye how the personnel's breakfast service procedure is executed during peak time between 9-10 am. There's tough talk necessary, believe me.
It's not a "wait to be seated" restaurant - be free to seat yourself. But where? when bunches of people are arriving simultaneously and you don't find a place to sit although many places were vacant / vacated but without any plates, cups, tea spoons, knives, forks, as well as no coffee and cream on the table. The situation I encountered on two busy mornings there has resembled "slow motion" service. It is really not what you wanna expect in a 4* hotel if you need to ask the service maid to lay the table and serve the coffee pot. There was obviously no supervisor who takes care of the procedures. The multivitamin dispenser always runs low fast and is not refilled swiftly, an omelette or 2 eggs with sunny side up will take 10-15 mins of waiting time, unbelievable. It seems that the personnel is not really focussed on the assigned jobs or a re-assignment or complete overhaul of the working procedure is badly needed and it would work for the guests properly if more intrinsic motivation was displayed by the personnel.
Our car broke down on the Island of Ruegen so we were stuck for a few days around Christmas and ended up staying here. This hotel is basically your average hotel in the US which has been updated in the last decade. The room size was comparable to rooms in the US (meaning large for Europe) and they had free parking and breakfast included (though you can get a lower rate by asking for no breakfast). There was also a spa on-site and they had a Christmas special on massages. These were only OK if you prefer a deep-tissue massage, but good if you don't prefer that. We did eat at the restaurant one evening, but it was a buffet due to the holidays. Despite being a buffet, it was a good selection of traditional German food. This hotel is a little bit away from the Bergen auf Ruegen center, but only about a 2 minute drive away. If you are going to the Island of Ruegen, you may want to consider staying in the town of Sassnitz as there's more to do there and its quainter and on the water.
