We spent three nights here on a trip exploring Crete, the room was comfy and clean, the friendly owners take a big pride to produce delicious and filling meals. No need to eat out anywhere else each evening, this was the best food!
The Virgin Mary apartments are well-equiped, spotlessly clean and have private balconies which are not overlooked but look over fabulous views of the coast and hinterland. The kitchen is separate to the bedroom with full cooking facilities and free Wifi available at all times. In a quiet area, the owners also run the taverna which provides authentic Cretan cuisine at a very reasonable price. There is a supermarket within 200m and a sandy beach the same distance away with sun loungers and umbrellas (but take care because these soon become taken). residents but
Rodakino is a real hidden unpolished gem. Its got a 'back of beyond' feel so youll forget about the whirring world you leave behind. Its hardly developed at all and the few tourist places also host the locals who Im guessing are mainly shepherds. There are only a handful of Tavernas/Rent Rooms that are all of a basic standard - but hey thats surely part of the attraction. The local hosts are perhaps initially a little wary but become pretty friendly once they get to know you. The food in VM is traditional home cooked greek and is very tasty, healthy and inexpensive. The room we had was very simple but I gather there are bigger and better with more impressive views.Wouldnt have missed this interesting and destressing experience on our Crete travels. We're looking forward to chilling on the empty beaches again soon and of course to being looked after at VM by the lovely Zoe, Yani and family.
