We had booked the room Marmotte in the little chalet. It was tiny and every corner was filled with charming antiques, but this made it so cluttered and dusty. We had to put our suitcases back in our car once we unpacked, as there was no room for them in the room. We had two big issues: first, there was a family of five above us and we heard every footstep. They weren't being excessively loud, but in these old chalets, you hear everything. Second, we ate in their restaurant at the hotel and the service was AWFUL. I had a bowl of soup and it took them 90 minutes to serve our meal. We did notice other tables around us were receiving what appeared to be plenty of attention. We felt invisible there.
We had booked for a week and left after one night. We couldn't sleep with the noise above our heads and the hotel could not offer us another room. That coupled with the horrible service....it just didn't seem worth it. We paid for four nights though. We do not recommend this hotel.
Just to have some context, we travel ALOT and this room/experience was really poor. Usually, we can put up with anything, as it's just for a day or two, but this place makes the bottom of our list for both the room and the restaurant experience. If you can't sleep and the service is horrible, why go to a hotel?
I don't normally leave reviews but this was truly an amazing experience and I had to share it.
We started out with the spa, the massage was fantastic, my therapist Lucie was very cheerful and professional it was a pure moment of bliss.
Big plus on the massage:
- Hot oil, hot towel, heating bed - everything WARM really aids in relaxing your muscles even more
- Music selection on point
- Room itself
Big plus on the spa:
- CLEAN and TIDY
- The wet area with sauna and hamman, perfect temp for both,
- Choice of teas
- The baskets with your towels, slipper and bathrobe is a great idea, I think it helps in reducing over usage of towels and also helps to keep the spa maintained without having used towels everywhere.
- The outdoor area
As for the dinner, our waiter was simply the best, a French gentlemen whom I forgot the name unfortunately, upbeat and knowledgeable and has been there for many many years ! Hopefully we see him next time.
Big plus on the dinner:
- The beef, it was excellent!!
- The wine list gives you a thorough explanation of the wines, you also have a selection of different sizes of btl so not obligated to take a full btl for 2
- Local wines and ingredients
- Speed of service
- Ski Lift Martini !!!!
- Outdoor area (especially the bar couch area, perfect for when you have a Ski Lift, or two ;) )
You can tell the hotel and its facilities have been very well thought through. The decoration and furniture are impeccable and there are little attentions everywhere.
I highly recommend this hotel, for a drink, a bite, and a massage, next time I will test the rooms ;) which I m sure live up to the rest.
Good luck for the rest of the season, as we have understood it has been a busy one for you and we were very happy to see that.
Best
Charlotte,
My pictures speak for themselves: this hotel is a jewel from previous generations in a well preserved valley amids the giants of the alps, high hotellerie standards, as for kitchen, breakfast, lunch and dinner, and a great swiss winecard. We had a table next to the open fire, and a room were Hercule Poirot would feel at home. The view: see my picture taken through my binoculars: Matterhorn sunset. Not cheap, but perfect to forget Covid times, and the owner promissed to do something about recharging electric cars as this was not an issue when this hotel was build.
Thank you for a wonderful stay. Mr and mrs Buch-Favre makes it personal and with passion. You feel welcomed, taken care of and all the staff learn who you are. We stayed in room 304, a wonderful room with balcony and a bathroom with a bathtub. The food is excellent, but a bit heavy. Cooked with passion and high class. We Will definately come back!
Room was beautiful with a great view from the window. The outdoor courtyard is a fantastic place to relax and have a drink. Our two dinners at the restaurant were excellent. And finally, my wife enjoyed her massage. Not much more you can ask of a hotel in the beautiful Swiss alps.
