Nice location, has its own beach with very nice view of the lake. We were greeted by zillion lake flies on the day of our arrival. We stayed in the light house room. The concept design is good but the rooms are not well constructed, and windows don't close well and because of this the room was full of lake flies. The first evening at this place was horrible but it got better the next day as the flies disappeared. The staff is super good, very polite and courteous. There is not much on the Menu to choose from and not many options to eat out as well.

My bf took me to dine here. we arrived and took some photos first, the waiter come and we ordered our meal, and my bf asked to see a room which we were going to stay in. When the waiter show us the room the owner came and rudely shout at us from the beginning saying we are not ordering food (we already did) and we did not even looking at the room we asked to see (she interrupted us before we could) claiming we are there doing business with the photos (my bf is a scientist, NOT a photographer). a white old man owner then came too and start pushing me and give me middle finger when we try to explain in a calm way that we already ordered. Yet this old man keep insulting us said we are exactly " those people" and pour so many rude words without even listen to us. It scares me a lot and i start crying and want to call the police. Overall, VERY RUDE, could have asked us not to take pictures, but instead chased us off claiming many people do not go there (gee, i wonder why). he even tried grabbing my bf's camera to break it, we just deleted the pictures because it honestly the place isnt all that anyway, they hardly have anything thats on their menu, what they have can be gotten elsewhere at a fraction of the cost with better service. if you go to mbita, there are much nicer places, i suggest wayando beach resort, much friendlier, and the views of the lake is across the island, nothing special here. I have been traveling to 29 countries so far but never in my life have encounter such rude people and now I am home and my shoulder hurts. It ruins our dinner plan but we try to let it not affect our feeling because of some unfair treatment.

Pros: The location is right on the water with a great view to Rusinga and Mfangano in front so you see the hilly coastline. Other places (including the really fancy ones on Rusinga) don't have this cool coastline view and mostly look out into open water. We didn't swim but they have a beach with chairs.
We booked a 1/2 day boat trip with the manager. Our guide Ken was really great and took us to Bird Island, around Takawiri and to Mfangano.
The power went out for us but the generator kicked in right away so it didn't bother us.

Cons: NO WIFI, Shower overflowed into room (need to unplug pipes it seems), Staff was overbearing/pushy on getting tips to the point that it really annoyed us, Staff not very professional (seem quite junior / like trainees). No cleaning service during stay. Don't provide water in rooms (everywhere else we stayed in 15 days did this).

Overall: Despite the cons, this place is probably one of the best ones in the area, and a good value - there are not a lot of options and this is right on the lake and in a very pretty part of it.

We stayed here for 3 days. It is a Paradise where You can relax. The meals are good, the service is friendly. The fresh Nile perch or tilapia is real fish grom the lake! When you can reserve the room in the Lighthouse: do do. The terrasse gives you the most beautifull look on the lake. And in the evening on the stars. A good trip on the lake: Just take a return ticket on the ferry to Mfangano island ferry. OR join thema opener in historisch private board. Relax!

We stayed here over christmas 2013..after looking at the pics,we were super excited. We reached there and the rooms were not ready. We were four couples with two babies.

When we were given the rooms,we should have just gone back..there were so many lizards in the ceiling that it was too freaky..then lizard droppings all over..and they just keep on falling..too disgusting..

We had two beds and the mattresses were uneven..there were no towels in the room.had to be requested.

Our friends room the water in the shower was a trickle. And in the other couples room there was no water.

One couple with the baby had requested for a double bed. They were given twin single beds. And mum & baby had to squeeze.

There was no help from the manager at all.

Secondly they allowed so many non residents on christmas that they could not serve the people staying there.

And the manager goes around apologising but still allowing more people in..

Worst experience..

The next day the manager escaped to a competitors lodge in rusinga and relaxed there. We found out as we had lunch there. She stayed almost the whole day there.Least bothered about what was going on at her place.

I would never recommend the place.unless you want to sleep with lizard droppings and shower with cold water(if water comes out from the tap).

The location and views are amazing. It has alot of potential..
