One Day in Seminyak

Seminyak is an upscale beachside area, home to Bali's best boutique shopping, luxurious spas, and Eat Street (Jalan Laksmana). Modern and very cosmopolitan, it's where many affluent expats live and where tourists come to relax. We have only one day in Seminyak to see what it has to offer without breaking the bank.

LynnePP's City Tips

  • Try and pop into some of the boutique fashion houses.
  • Tipping is not compulsory, but appreciated for good service.
  • Expect most prices in this area to be higher than in Kuta/Legian.
  • Metered taxi is the best way to get around Seminyak.
  • You may get away with walking around the streets in bathers in Kuta, but not in Seminyak.
  • Keep bargaining lighthearted and cheerful.
  • You can find quality merchandise in Seminyak that is not available in Kuta/Legian.

    LynnePP Says:

A good start to the day is an early morning beach walk and a visit to Petitenget Temple. This beach has greyish-colored sand and is less crowded than the other beaches in the area. The 'Pura' (temple) is shaded by very large, old trees that look like they've been there as long as the temple!

    Tips
    • On some mornings, young Balinese girls practice dancing nearby.
    • Although the temple is small and not well known, it can have spectacular ceremonies on special occasions.
    • Be careful: This beach can have a very strong undercurrent.

Indulge in some shopping therapy! Although this complex is small, it does have a wide range of merchandise, from international brands to local designer labels. The ground level is an open-air market with goods similar to what you would find on Jl. Legian, though the price might be a bit higher at the Square.

If you want an introduction to authentic Indonesian food, Cabe Rawit is your best port of call. A small warung specializing in Javanese food, it is cheap, clean, and has friendly staff. The food is consistently good and full of the flavors you expect from the Spice Islands. Vegetarians are catered to as well, and there is a special kids' menu.

Manicures, pedicures, facials, flower petal baths, hairdressers, make-up artists, and all types of massages are available at very reasonable prices.

The beach at Seminyak is the setting for picture postcard sunsets, and there is no better way to experience them than on a bean bag in the sand at La Plancha. At the beach end of Jl. Arjuna you will find a row of beach bars offering speciality cocktails, cold beers, food, and music. Just before sunset, it becomes crowded and full of life.

The famous Made's Warung in Kuta has been around the longest, and it is such an asset that Made's has opened in Seminyak, and with a much larger premises. It is open and spacious with a stage for live entertainment and Balinese dancers who perform nightly for the patrons. The food and drinks are always of high standard, and the staff are helpful and friendly. The cuisine is local Balinese, Indonesian, and international — so something for everyone.
