BUENOS AIRES the EUROPEAN CAPITAL in SOUTH AMERICA

84%
Found this guide helpful

Far , far away from Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Santiago del Chile, Caracas and any other South American Cities and capitals and the South American way of city life that turns into uniformity these Cities, one will find that special European culture, flavours , splendour , habits, colours and looks , that Buenos Aires City and its Porteño Population breathes in absolute tranquility. And these qualities are the same that, while unfindable anywhere else on the American Continents (Exception made to Canada) , make a voyage through the Capital of Argentina so unique . Although... Do not forget that inflation is serious and therefore funky money bills may be expected (today) to be handed to you, upon recurring to streetwise money exchangers ! Never do that : Always recurr to a Bank, or an Exchange Bureau. Culture, amusement and urban tourism : Try one of several tour tourist bustrips through Buenos Aires to get to know most of the areas: Microcentro, Recoleta, Palermo, La Boca, Puerto Madero and much more... Never leave Buenos Aires, without experiencing a visit to "Museo de Arte Latino Americana de Buenos Aires" and Recoleta's Cultural Center, walking the garden/Plaza San Martin (and its' rose granit Monument to General de San Martin, above the Memmorial to those who have fallen on the 80ies in the Malvinas'War) and the pedestrian Calle Florida, also walking around the iconic "Floralis Generica" at Plaza Naciones Unidas, walking through the Japanese Garden, after a drive through the Avenida Figueroa Alcorta across its Gardens and Garden'Plazas, The Plaza Itália with the Monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi, the absolute tranquility of Calle Alvear . Do not forget to add to your plan a lunch, or snack or just a simple coffee at "Cafe Tortoni", and a Tango Dinner (La Ventana, El Querandi , and any of other Tango Clubs) is an absolute must when at Buenos Aires. Other iconic and interesting areas : Avenida Corrientes and Plaza de Mayo, the "Casa Rosada" , Puente Mujer (by Santiago Calatrava), El Caminito. As an European Capital, Buenos Aires is a Garden City, where you'll meet a culture and urban behaviour that nowadays may be rare to find in some European Cities : Wide gardens are a wonder and absolutely well taken care of, Monuments and Statues erected skywards are magnificent and found anywhere (Plazas) . Graffitis ? ... None !

GaiaGlobetrotter's City Tips

  • Always use cabs from Radio Cab Companies !
  • Yes , tipping is expected by wayters at restaurants and caffes. As inflation is galloping in Argentina, tipping for a good dinner less than 30 Pesos is regrettable...
