We are headed to Lake Tekapo in January and would like to book a flight. Is it best to book once we arrive in case of weather?
Booking is advised as especially in the busier months some time slots can fill up. As mentioned in some of the other responses here we do not charge until on the day and any cancellations due weather are free of charge. We advise checking in with us when you arrive in town to check the conditions for your flight time.
If you wish to make a booking or have any other questions please feel free to check out our website where you will find a booking form and also our direct contact details.
We look forward to having you join us on a flight!
We booked our flight with Air Safari on the day as we had previously booked a helicopter flight with Tekapo helicopters and the weather was not so good for helicopters (apparently) but was ok for planes,
you can book in advance, but will not be charged until you fly.
Either way its a must do!
It's a popular trip, maybe it's a good idea to book as it's also high season and find out what the refund policy is if the trip doesn't go ahead because of weather. :)
Hi Jamie. have a read in their terms and conditions. they do not actually charge you until the day itself so if you book in advance you have nothing to loose.
But to be honest, I think if you book the day before or on the day that should be fine too. When we were there they had 2 plane pilots and one helicopter pilot on duty and did one trip after the next as it was quite busy. The plan can hold about 6 - 20 people depending on which plane they take so they should be able to fit you in at some point during the day, especially if there is only a few of you. They fly all day, starting from early morning... Enjoy. We did the Grand Traverse Tour, 1 hour on the plane which we loved...
We had booked far in advance. On the due date it was not possible to fly and our flight was postponed to the next day. The plane has only ten seats and waiting till the last moment may give the risk of being fully booked for that day. So up to you what you believe is the best.
Absolutely! I would not spend a lot of money for the flight if the weather isn't close to perfect.
As January is a main holiday period get there as early as possible, so you do not miss out.
hi Jamie, base on my personal experience, answer is yes. Nz weather is quite changable and I have to cancell couple of events Bec of the weather so things like flight would be good to book on the day when you can make sure it's good wearher
