I would like to know if I can find out when I visit St Hellier next Spring whether I can find out anything about my great grandfather who was born there on 18th Feb 1839. His name was Thomas Alfred Davies and his father, Evan, was a British ship's surgeon. Evan too, my great great grandfather, was born in Jersey, 9th May 1791, and died there 5th Oct 1867. I have never been to Jersey and would love to find out where they lived and what I can find out about them.
thank you for any advice you can give me

You need to speak to Jersey Archive, they will be able to point you in the right direction.
Hi. There is a Jersey Island historical society that my mother used when she first went. Just google Jersey Island Historical Society - they have access to the Jersey Archives and for a small amount (A$30-150) they can run a search on your behalf which is handy to know where the family graves are before you go - we even found some distant relatives who were happy to come and share a meal with us. Good luck with your search if you have trouble locating the historical society sing out and I'll ask mum for the email she used. Suzi Moore
This museum will be interesting to you but there is a Maritime Museum across the road which may be of more relevance - helpful too. Jersey Heritage on Clarence Road - not far - have all sorts of records - they have a website and another which could help you as they have a family history section is gov jersey Have a good search - and holiday!
