i agree with your feedback. we used to enjoy taking friends and vistors to Hinze dam for picnics but no more since they raised the wall and closed off the picnic bbq area facing the water. now one has to have a picnic on a lawn facing the info and cafe or go behind the dam wall. what a view???
if you havent seen what hinze dam was like before the dam changes just stand on the dam wall and look to the other side of the dam, opp the restaurant area, and you will see sloping area down to the water edge that used to house a car park, bbq and plenty of sitting and play areas ALL overlooking the water
Yes, the picnic and BBQ arrangements have changed, and unfortunately some of the facilities have improved and some are less conducive to picnics and BBQ. The facilities are great, but different to before. For new visitors it's not an issue; for people who loved the old facilities with the area for children to play it's different now.
There are fabulous walking tracks and plenty of spots for picnics along the way..although not what it was previously. Personally i prefer the cafe because its a fab view but i understand families wanting space for kids to enjoy and be free too.. maybe suggest they build a play area or another allocated picnic area.. maybe they don't know what consumers would like..
I had not visited Hinze Dam before August this year, so I cannot comment on what it was like before then. We sat on a low concrete wall beside the cafe to have our packed lunch, and enjoyed the same view that the cafe patrons had.
