For some friends that have not biked for many years. Are there beginners trails or not so much on this one?
Sorry, I forgot to add - once you are on the trail, there weren't many places (apart from the half way point at PiroPiro) to wait and get picked up. Apart from a few at the start and finish, once on the trail, you either turned around or kept going.
I rode the 80km trail earlier in the year. My recommendation is that the second half of the trail (day2 - Piropiro Campsite - 39km onwards) is more easy going (apart from the first 5km which is up hill but a wide trail). But if you have good fitness then you will be fine. A lot of it follows an old train line, so not too bad on the hills!
The first 40km is a bit challenging if you haven't ridden for a few years! The first 20km is a lot of up hill, and some of the downhill bits were muddy.
