is there ample parking inside or around the park?
Good answer. I'd just add that the museum and zoo both have ample parking (and flank the park on two sides). Those parking lots can be crowded on weekends and during special events. Even when busy, though, both have underground parking that some folks don't seem to know about, so unless there are "lot full" signs posted, it's easy to park there and take a short walk to the park. If picnicking and/or have a car full of kids or folks that have difficulty walking, I'd recommend that you drive into the park and drop off passengers/gear near where you want to picnic, then have the driver park the car. It's a BIG park! (Takes me at least an hour to walk briskly around its 3-mile perimeter (outside the zoo and museum.)
Depends on the day and where you're going inside the park. You can't drive through most of the park on weekends, but you can on weekdays, and there's street parking then. There are also surface lots at the zoo and Nature & Science center, which are inside the park. Or you can park on 17th Street and the surrounding cross streets and walk into the park.
