Are there discounts available on the California Zephyr through memberships in such clubs as AAA or AARP?

The AAA discount has just ended due to fewer and fewer members traveling. There is a Senior Discount, but that is only off the "RAIL" fare. Accommodations are at the fare listed. Amtrak has moved from group discounts to limited time offers to a specific group. Recently they had a 3 day special just for Seniors.

Yes. Or just sign up with Amtrak and they will notify you about specials.
