We were happy to have taken the early bird. Just make sure you’re not too tired the night before so you can wake up early - but 6am pick-up time is not too early for me anyways so it really depends if you’re a morning person or not. The advantage, in my opinion, is that you get ahead of the crowds at pier where the boats take off. It can get really crowded as we’ve seen after our tour. Another thing, on the bus, you get to sleep for about an hour or so when it starts rolling so it kind of makes up for waking up early. If you don’t sleep, you can catch the first rays of light fall on the magnificent rolling landscape and it is a beautiful to behold! Lastly, you get back to Queenstown early enough to do more things. Hope this helps

Hi there. We booked the early morning trip and although it meant an early start, we needed the whole day because the trip is around 12 hours long from start to finish. Also I’m not sure that the BBQ bus has a late start option? Hope this helps.

Morning is still the best as this is a long journey and to enjoy the whole journey best to start early
