We booked the day before just remember it's all relevant to what season you go in. better to be safe and book early you won't be disappointed
No we booked on the day and we were able to go. Perhaps if it's a busy time like school holidays you should book in advance.
Like for everything, it is better, moreover when you know that it is a very popular attraction, but it is not fully booked a week in advance.. 48h should be enough
We booked the day before, but it was not the high season.
Our group did. You can probably show up, but you may need to wait.
You need to book in advance. We booked two days out. You might get lucky with a cancellation? Book an early swing if you want to go more than once. They are limited to daylight hours so sometimes second jumps cant be done on the last booking time. Check daily for deals and it may work out cheaper if you choose a package with one of the other Shotover attractions. Hope this helps. Sorry about the delay in answering and hope you enjoy your stay.
Not necessary but advisable if you don't want to be disappointed
I note we were there before July school holidays so not that busy and there was only four of us. Whilst we were there I didnt see others so very quiet. Not sure what like during peak tourist times.
Before doing the Swing we did the Shotover Jetboat and got picked up from (and dropped back to) the car park there.
If you have one, take your own GoPro. They give everyone in your party a GoPro to use (you are also provided with a wrist strap/mount) but charge you $20 for each SIM card (which you get to buy and keep). For us that was an extra $80!!! You can use your own and save yourself $20/person...They will give you a helmet but it doesn't have a GoPro mount. Maybe consider a chest harness. or some other way of securing to your hand.
We did, but not really. As we were organising them to pick us up by mini-bus we found it easier to ring and book our spot (its a private road to the site so you cannot just drive there yourself. You need to be picked up and returned to your motel or pre-arranged meeting spot). It also allowed us to choose a time slot that suited our plans for the day.
I'd recommend it! Days do sell out, sometimes over a week in advance, especially in peak season. I would call ahead to get an idea of availability.
I would highly recommend it. The groups are fairly small - I believe there were 8 or 9 in our group - and it takes about 2 hours total, including transport to and from the canyon. Without a reservation, you may have to wait a while.
