Whakarewarewa - The Living Maori Village Questions & Answers

Beijing, China

Hi. A few questions: How do you get there from Rotorua town? I saw pics of people bathing on tripadvisor. Can you bath in the pools? What about in May? Just wondering. Thank you!

Kia ora, sorry for the delayed response to his question - there was no alert and it got inadvertently missed.

You can get to Whakarewarewa by foot from Rotorua central - it's about a 20 minute walk, or otherwise a 5min car/cab ride. Alternatively, there is a public transport option in the form of us a bus and the stop is on Fenton St, and we are a short walk from there (though if you are coming from the city centre, this would require a bus change). Hope this helps, again, apologies for the belated response! Nga mihi,

Lou

The village is located in town so easy to get there. Only the Maori people actually living in the village use the pools - and only after visiting hours.

If you want to go into hot pools go to Hells Gate instead. They have mud pools and mineral pools - but no village which is what makes this one so special.

We did both and it is two very different experiences. May would be a good time of year as you don't want to go into hot pools when it's sunny and warm :)
