Hi everyone, I've noticed through the reviews that many have travelled with young kids, some under 2 yrs old. I'm considering coming to Oyster Island via Port Vila with my (will be by then) 7 month old. I'll be speaking to a travel doctor soon, but just wondered if any of you had any problems travelling with an infant, and how did you deal with the (if any) concerns over things like Malaria.
We also travelled in November and had no problems at all. In fact, I don't recall seeing a mosquito! I usually get mauled too. The bungalows are screened and mozzie coils are provided. We had also heard that there is no malaria in Santo (although there is in Port Vila) -- prob best to check that with travel doctor. Vanuatu is a great place for kids and Oyster Island is particularly child-friendly. You will have a wonderful family holiday.
Hi We travelled in November and it was very dry. We took lots of insect repellant and never used it at all. Bungalows are all screened. We went to the river rafting and yes on the banks you needed spray but with a baby, you probably wouldn't do this. We took our 6 month grandchild to Port Vila once and there were no problems. The locals love babies so your child will have lots of attention.Make sure that you get all your baby supplies in town before hand as resort is quite isolated. We also had a fridge which I would recommend. You will love this place. Enjoy
