Hi, mammabert. What would you like to know about this attraction? what is the best area to live in on oak island and be able to walk to restaurants and beaches?
What are the temperatures like in May?
Is it warm enough to go in the ocean?
Is the water clear enough to snorkel?
I am confused about all the comments on Oak Island beaches. I just spent two weeks visiting Ocean Isle, Holden Beach, Kure Beach, Carolina Beach, and Emerald Isle. All of those barrier islands have huge, deep, white sand beaches. Then I went to Oak Island and was kind of disappointed. The beach is really, really shallow at high tide (maybe 20-30 feet deep?) and there is a wide strip of gray/black silt covering most of the dry sand. Its actually crunchy when you walk on it. I am trying to see the beauty in Oak Island, since my husband had fallen in love with a house on the ICW there, but after having walked all those other big NC beaches, I am feeling a bit bummed out on OKI. Can you shed some light - is it just a temporary thing?
