I am hoping to bike the trail in late January. However, my schedule is tight. I am coming from Tongariro Alpine Crossing area and heading to Waitomo for the 530 tour. How late do people start cycling? My thought was that I would get up to Ongarue village early afternoon, cycle to the overnight point, start early the next day so I can hopefully make the 530 tour at Waitomo Worm Caves. Is this crazy? I am reasonably fit. But I don't want to rush to experience. Thanks.
For some friends that have not biked for many years. Are there beginners trails or not so much on this one?
Hi there, I'm interested in walking the timber trail but can only see biker reviews. What are the accommodation/shuttle options for trampers? Is there anything apart from "bring your own tent" between Pureora and Piropiro, or halfway between Piropiro and Ongarue? And if tenting is the only way - can you pitch your tent anywhere along the trail? Cheers!
