My wife is not the most confident driver, and, after reading dozens of reviews of the drive up, she was very nervous about this drive in particular... til she wasn't because it's super duper easy and nothing to worry about at all. We drove up during a clear afternoon, and are so glad we did. Definitely a "peak" experience. :)

Be sure to go all the way to the top, and be sure to bring layers. I am reasonably healthy and have no weight, heart or breathing issues, but I did have to take it slow once we got about 7500 ft or so, as I could definitely feel the thinness of the air with each breath, so be prepared for that as well. Worth it though: it's like being on another planet once you get into the crater proper.

Beautiful beach. Silky soft sand and calm blue water. My only issue is the coral. You need to really watch your step when swimming. Unfortunately, i stepped on one, and my foot still hasn’t completely healed yet. I mean, i went there 9 months ago! Other than that, very nice.

We absolutely loved this tour! The staff were friendly, our tour guide was very kind and knowledgeable, and took the time to answer everyone's questions. My whole family loved being able to walk around parts of the field to see the different stages of the growth of the pineapple plants up close, tasting the fresh picked pineapple right in the field, and being able to see every part of the planting, harvesting, and packaging process. We all learned something we didn't know about pineapples before - and one of my favorite things was being able to take home a friend Maui Gold pineapple as a souvenir. I'm definitely going to try to grow a new plant from the crown of the one I got to take home

It’s not a bad drive at all…spectacular flora and ocean views. Several places to stop and get water/food/bathrooms. Hana itself is ok but not as much to do for us older people that don’t hike.

We decided we would go at sunset, rather than sunrise. It was a tough decision, we were happy we did it. So, if you are like us, you came to Maui to have beach time, snorkel time, and see the sights. We spent nine days in Hawaii; consider the first day and last day travel days when you get the lay of the land or are in transit (think jet-lag). You are down to seven days; we felt Pearl Harbor (Oahu), snorkel day, Haleakala sunrise/sunset, Road to Hana, Hookipa Bay (the turtles), Keone’o’io Nature Preserve and two beach days rounds it out with a spa morning and some evening dinners. So there you have it, a busy vacation with a little sun time; now back to Haleakala. We did not feel waking up at 1:00 a.m. to be in line at 3:00 a.m. is worth it if you budget your time for a week-ish vacation. Instead of getting up in the middle of the night for Haleakala, we got up early one morning, drove straight to Hana- go past Hana and see the waterfalls, eat at Huli Huli Chicken on the beach in Hana, stop at Coconut Glens for an afternoon snack, drive up to Haleakala, see the sunset and hike a bit before that. The turtles are 15 minutes from the airport, do them the day you go home. Skip the expensive snorkeling and rent at the beach on Ka’annapali Beach near the Black Rock. It’s not everything, but it hits the high points. FYI; the pass to get into Haleakala is $30, but it’s good for three days. If I gave you bad advice, you can go back in the morning (get on the National Park Service reservations 2 days in advance). Remember, you don’t need a reservation for the sunset, just the sunrise. Another tidbit; the road to Haleakala is just a lot of turns and I don’t know why other reviews are so hung up on it; think Rocky Mountain National Park.

Was really looking forward to seeing the Giant Green turtles. It was truely wonderful. The beach was beautiful, nice bathroom, nice covered picnic area. The lifeguard was interactive with people educating them about the living reef and where they should go to enter the water without damaging. The were alot of signed due to the waves size that can be dangerous for swimmers. Great place to watch the surfers and the kite boarding.

Bamboo forest was the highlight of our trip. Truly mesmerizing. Pay attention to the clattering sound of bamboo. So soothing and meditative. The falls and excellent weather with brilliant blue skies were a bonus

The Banyan Tree Park is home to the largest Banyan Tree in the United States. It provides shade and is a popular meeting place. The regular craft fair and art shows have been suspended. This tree is healthy and well maintained. At sunset the birds fly into the tree to sleep. There is a unique view of the tree from the 2nd floor of the Historic Lahaina courthouse or from Cool Cat Cafe.

Go early in the morning for a quiet visit. Make sure you’re a strong swimmer of you plan on taking a dip, the current is strong in this channel.
